If Obama wins, will he have a "mandate"?

I remember when Bush squeaked out his win in 2004, the Right declared that his reelection was a mandate given by the American people. They also said that this mandate meant that it was time for the left to stop opposing his policies because doing so basically meant they were opposing the will of the American people.

So being that that is the right's feelings on what it means to be reelected, will they hold fast to that principle if Obama is reelected? Will Republicans in Congrees call for an end to obstructionist tactics on legislation proposed by the left? Will Obama be allowed to persue new policies and programs he wanted to in his first term but was not allowed to because they were blocked in Congress?

I just want him to win, period. Let the media worry about if he gets a mandate. We just need to keep Romney out of office.

he will have a mandate because he will have a House, led by Speaker Pelosi and a Senate, led by Harry Reid.

If Obama wins by 1 vote or by 1 electoral vote, he should squeeze that sucker by the balls until it screams mandate.

the repukes were quite insistant that it was not a mandate. I guess mandates are only a repuke thing to be used only for their agenda. They sure are great at setting the terms.

Our media establishes narratives with a double standard.

Obama won in 2008 by a Reaganesque margin. If Bush ever had a "mandate", then President Obama had a mandate five times over. But what was the narrative then?

"How will the president accommodate Republicans? What will he do to be inclusive of his opponents?"

And then there was the whole "team of rivals" comparison.

What Obama got from the media was a grudging admission that somehow he and his supporters had pulled off a win, but it was tentative at best and the only polite thing to do was to bend over backwards to make Republicans happy.

Republicans get "mandates" no matter what the margin. Democrats get tolerance, at most.

I suspect those of us who vote for him will expect a mandate after he wins. The 2016 election no matter who wins starts the next day.

It depends on weather or not he takes the House with him for the ride.

If we are all saying Madam Speaker Pelosi come January, then yeah, he pretty much has a mandate as s far as I am concerned, and he needs to start breaking balls in order to get some shit done. Last time he had a Majority in both Houses, he played the game of "Well, not all Democrats are LIBERAL Democrats..." and that won't fly this time. THIS TIME,the message need to be "Your Democrat ass got elected because you are NOT A REPUBLICAN, and you're damn sure going to ACT like it...or you will answer to ME."

If the GOP holds the House, nothing will get done. If I were the President at that point, I would make GOP obstruction the ONLY thing I talk about Publicly, every day for 2 fucking years. I would HAMMER them on it, I would make it my GOAL to repay Mitch McConnell by orders of magnitude for his political miscalculation, and that would include punishing the GOP House. I would work on FORCING a mandate by getting every Dem I could elected to Congress in the next cycle, and fuck the GOP if they don't think that's Good Governance.

2 years of REAL Liberal control of both Houses, with a Congress that is willing to WORK 10 hour days for a year straight, is all we would need anyway, to set right what has been broken. And working that hard, and letting the people SEE you do it, should guarantee the President AFTER Obama is ALSO a Democrat.

My 2 cents, leave comments, as they are always welcome.
