with 80 other young Airmen. They won't put their names on the Vietnam Wall because the plane crashed in the Phillipines. Please don't tell me or anyone else who lost someone to war what a struggle Mitt had as a missionary in Paris. My family never recovered.

(27,985 posts)If it makes you feel better and I'm sure it doesn't, Ann and Mitt are both sociopaths and unless their children are also sociopaths, they lived through hell as children. I was a child of a sociopath and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. They aren't human and have no access to human emotions. They fake but not always so well.
If there is anything that happened in your life that made your heart sing with joy, know that neither Ann nor Mitt have ever felt that. It's a small thing, I know.

(25,270 posts)like petition some agency or the President or something to get the names of your brother and the other 79 airmen on the Wall? Their names should absolutely be up on that Wall with all the others lost to that senseless war. I don't care where the plane crashed - even if it crashed at takeoff on U.S. soil - their names should be on that Wall. They were being deployed to Vietnam - in my opinion and I'm sure we'll get a lot of other DU'ers here agreeing - their deaths were a direct result of that war.

(4,228 posts)but nothing can be done. Thanks...I really think it's unfair. My Mother could not be honored as a Gold Star Mother, either.

(25,270 posts)and what excuse are they giving you for not putting the names up? This is just not right. Have you gone to the press with this? Have you ever tried to get any allies in the media to go to bat for these 80 airmen and make this a big issue?
Who else are they denying putting on the Wall?

(284 posts)and recognize people who died because of issues related to the Vietnam War...my brother was honored about 7 years ago and they put their names in some book that is supposed to be available at the Wall (but it's not). I really don't know who makes the decision. Jack Murtha was our Congressman (I loved him) and we contacted him but he said nothing could be done. I think it's a darn shame. Thank you for asking, I appreciate it.

(53,339 posts)To have a loved one considered for the In Memory program in 2013, you must submit your application to VVMF by April 12th, 2013. Please fill out the information below. Along with the application, please upload copies of the death certificate and military records showing service in Vietnam (ie: DD214) as well as two clear photographs of the honoree.
In Memory Application 2013
In Memory honors those who died as a result of the Vietnam War but whose deaths did not fit the Department of Defense parameters for inclusion on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

(3,772 posts)All her boys and Mitt have "served", just like people in the military!

(284 posts)When discussing her chickenhawk husband and sons, ann romney said the following: "He was serving his mission. My five sons have also served their mission. None served in the military. None served in the military, but I do have one son that feels that hes giving back to his country in a significant way where he is now a doctor, and he is taking care of veterans. So we find different ways of serving, and my five boys and my husband did serve missions, and did not serve in the military." She then added; I sent them away boys, and they came back men. Well guess what ann? The 80 young men that were referred to in the original post went away as boys, and never came home. Maybe, if they had gone to France to serve their churches instead of flying into a war started by wealthy men like your husband, then their families would not have to had dealt with their losses.

(153,193 posts)and thank you for including families - I am a veteran, but I was also a "military brat" - most people have no idea what it is like to constantly move as a child, constantly changing schools. It can be very tough!

(3,344 posts)I hope that some of the advice given here works. Your story should be part of a national conversation. My cousin was killed before he had been in Nam two hours. His name is on the wall. Your brother's name should be also. He sure wasn't flying to Paris.

(10,422 posts)I can only imagine that this is something from which you don't ever recover. Then when you see some chickenhawk that advocated for the war and then flew off to France to ride his bike through the countryside, it can only add insult to injury.

(544 posts)I'm so sorry for your family and suggest DU start a petition on Change.Org to get their names on the wall. It is shameful that they were denied the honor. None would not have been in the Philippines had they not been en-route to Vietnam.
Ann Romney's tone deafness is breathtaking to say the least. She is the epitome of "let them eat cake". Bravo to Whoppi to pursuing the questioning.
