"I have my beautiful wife, Ann; he has Bill Clinton.”

From Mitt Romney's witty bag of personal attacks at tonight's Al Smith dinner.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/election-2012/wp/2012/10/18/obama-romney-playfully-roast-each-other-at-alfred-e-smith-dinner/

This bothered me on so many levels. The mean spirited attack, the laughter from the audience, the wine guzzling Katie Couric eating this up in the backround . . . truly there is no bottom to the barrel.

Michelle Obama opens up to ELLE readers about the future of American women and the five ways President Obama is looking out for women like you.

Dear ELLE Readers,

When I fell in love with Barack more than 20 years ago, I knew he’d be a loving husband and a devoted father. I knew he shared my determination to make a difference in other people’s lives. But I never dreamed that he’d one day be president, and I know that he didn’t either.

But four years ago—against all odds—I joined millions of Americans from all backgrounds and walks of life to vote for Barack. I didn’t do it just because we were married. I voted for him because I knew he was going to stand up for women like me—and our daughters, sisters, and mothers. When I look at all he’s done since that freezing day he was inaugurated on the Capitol steps—from health-care reform, to saving jobs, to fighting for women’s rights—I’m proud of how far we have come. And I’m determined to help him keep moving forward. (Visit Gottavote.org to find out how to register and where to cast your ballot.)

Here are five reasons to vote for Barack when you go to the polls on November 6:

1. He’s fighting for equal pay for women. Barack was raised by a single mom who struggled to pay the bills, and by a grandmother who worked hard at her job but hit a glass ceiling and watched men she actually trained climb the career ladder ahead of her. As the father of two girls, he wants to make sure that all our daughters grow up with the same opportunities as our sons and are treated fairly in the workplace. That’s why the first bill he signed as president was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act to help women get equal pay for equal work.

she is even more beautiful on the inside.

She is a warm, lovely, compassionate woman who "gets" it in every way and truly cares about people. She is everything that Ann is not. Mittens could not even begin to compare the two. His fallback had to be Clinton.

I am so proud of Michelle as FLOTUS and will continue to be proud of her as FLOTUS for four more years.

What would Sean Hannity be saying tonight if Obama had talked about having his beautiful wife Michelle while Mitt had John Sununu to come home to?

Mittens would trade Ann in a heartbeat if it meant the republicans could have a Bill Clinton in their party. They have no one! what patriarch can they look to and say "I will govern like him?" what former republican anything can they bring out on a national stage and help them sway voters? no one, they have no one like Bill Clinton, no one alive anyway. So Mitt is so jealous he can't stand it, and he can't hide it. This has nothing to do with the FLOTUS. This is Mittens issue alone

Live, I didn't quite make out "Bill Clinton" but still cringed at the backhanded swipe this was toward Michelle Obama. It's like someone on MSNBC said, Romney's jokes were more like what you would expect at a roast rather than the more light-hearted banter at an Al Smith dinner. Romney crossed over the line a number of times.

I heard that Romney line on the BBC this morning. I thought it was funny. Bill Clinton is beating the crap out of Mittens and it's nice to see Money Boo-Boo admit it. For that matter, I also laughed at his other reported joke--"The president's campaign is brought to you by the letter O and the number 16 trillion." I mean, sure, it was a dig at us, but it was a well crafted and well delivered dig. I mean, I could take the time to unpack it*, but seriously, why bother? The point was to be funny for a night, take a break from the mud. I liked the president's jokes better. But the day I can't laugh at my own side of the fence is a day I don't want to see.

*("O" is a dig at Obama's marketing, which is ironic coming from a guy who is ONLY about marketing and a liar to boot; and that 16 trillion is mostly due to the Republicans' irresponsible tax cuts and their two poorly mismanaged wars that they put on the nation's credit card--plus the president's share of that $16t is mostly due to cleaning up the Repubilcans' messes)
