Reports: Arms ship docks in Syria after being released from Cyprus

SHIP released on the orders of the Cyprus government and suspected of carrying tons of munitions bound for the Assad regime is reported to have docked in Syria.

If verified, the development will be humiliating for government officials in Nicosia that had assured the public and the EU that the ship was sailing elsewhere.

The report has prompted fears that the ammunition and weapons will probably wind up in the hands of President Assad’s security forces.

State radio, citing unconfirmed reports in the Turkish media, said that the vessel, which had switched off its digital tracking system last night, docked in Syria at around midday.
