Indiana Bill Would Give School Boards The Power To Force Teachers To Teach Creationism As Science

ADDICTING INFO - This is what happens when religious extremists have control over a political party in America. A Senate bill being considered in Indiana would allow school boards across the state to force teachers to teach creationism as science. Senate bill 89 would amend the Indiana Education code by adding the following passage:

“Sec. 18. The governing body of a school corporation may require the teaching of various theories concerning the origin of life, including creation science, within the school corporation.”

In other words, teachers will be forced to teach their students creationism, which is not recognized as a real science in the scientific community because there isn’t any evidence to support the Biblical theory. This is just a way for the religious right to indoctrinate children in our schools against their will and clearly violates the religious freedom of non-Christians. Creationism belongs in church, NOT schools. If passed, the new law would go into effect on July 1, 2012. You can view the Senate bill 89 here.

How many times do we have to litigate this before legislators get the message that this kind of crap is clearly unconstitutional?

I fixed that headline for you.

The legal precedent is firmly established. Creationism is religion.

It certainly is not the Constitution... They hate that...It actually allows for freedom and Republicans hate freedom..real freedom.. Freedom to marry who you wish, freedom to have ALL medical precedures stay between doctor and patient...freedom from religion...Republicans would like nothing better than to RULE as a Monarchy and tear "that goddamn piece of paper" into shreds.

...compare it to evolution every chance I got, and show how Evolution presents proof, and Creationism has none (i.e. that it's not science). And I'd throw in all other various "Theories" as the law allows it--that Earth is carried on the back of a turtle, etc. I'd even have tests on it: "Offer three examples of scientific evidence that prove the Earth was created in six days rather than over billions of years." I wonder if these people would be so gun-ho to put Creationism in the classrooms if they realized they're inviting teachers to prove their religion is ridiculous, and maybe convert their kids to atheists rather than, as they hope, indoctrinating kids with religion.
