(8,421 posts)I know 'dropping the mic' has been around a lot. Having President Obama 'drop the mic' after the debate was posted here by ProSense, I think the night of the debate (I was on the road, so I'm not claiming 100% knowledge of this).

(36,974 posts)I had remembered seeing something about a 'mic drop' a few days but didn't know what it was all about.
Looks like it started up with Chris Rock

(20,043 posts)I remember watching that stand up routine. Would have been funny had the President done it, but I don't think everyone would have appreciated the humor.

(49,044 posts)President Obama has given a lot of major speeches. But never before has he punctuated one by dropping the microphone after, like he did Tuesday night on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (watch videos below).
It's the rhetorical equivalent of the end zone dance in the NFL, and came after Obama joined the NBC host in "slow-jamming" the news. And it was just one of the standout moments from the president's latest foray into late night television.
It's the first of the video clips on that page.

(25,415 posts)They got the public so right. All of my cousins are from Long Island and they all are like the guy that wants to kick ass and the woman who asked about assault weapons. All with the same crazy accent.
The dropping the mic was classic.
