Zip from DOJ? The Romneys need to be reported to the OSCE International Election Monitors in the US!

General Elections, 6 November 2012

Following an invitation from the United States Mission to the OSCE to observe the 6 November 2012 general elections and in accordance with its mandate, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) undertook a Needs Assessment Mission (NAM) from 23 to 27 April.

The OSCE/ODIHR NAM recommends the deployment of a Limited Election Observation Mission (LEOM) to observe the general elections.

Considering the ownership of voting machines in several states by the Romneys, ongoing widespread GOP sponsored voter suppression/registration dumping/imminent intimidation and the latest news about the various conflicts of interest with the GOP's Presidential candidate and links to election fraudsters, surely OSCE/ODIHR NAM need to upgrade their Election Observation Mission to "Full Scale"?

Not much time to do it, and I know it's probably wishful thinking, but still...

Surely the Election Observation Mission they do have in place should be making some noise, however "limited" they may be...?? Otherwise, what's the point of them even being in the US?

The NeoCONs waged illegal wars on other nations to supposedly "install democracy", and yet at home they wage a war on democracy itself. And seemingly get away with it without nary a peep from their political opponents or the FBI.

If they get away with it yet again, how can they expect anyone to ever take America's democracy (or the OSCE/ODIHR) seriously?

However the story changes for me when you look at the board of HIG and see the connections to Bain
not to mention the Romney family. I wish a lawyer would weigh in on separation of ownership of
machines and the control of those machines, what laws apply.

all we can do is GOTV and be vigilant (9+ / 0-)

first, Ohio has a paper trail:

DRE machines also print a contemporaneous voter verifiable paper record that shows on paper what the machine recorded electronically. This paper record is the official ballot for purposes of a recount and/or post election audit.

second, OFA is organizing lawyers to protect the vote.

✔ keep taking deep breaths, & GOTV (5+ / 0-)

Although it's always good to keep an eye out for these things, and one can't put anything past Rmoney, Rove, GOP, alleged 'rogue bad apples,' etc., and hacking voting machines is a potentially grave problem, for the most part these stories are too simplistic in their conspiracy theorizing. (Investing six years ago in a company that includes a vote-machine business does not mean one can rig the election. It's good to monitor these things, but not get consumed by it.)

More insidious are the attempts to limit voters via voter ID laws, intimidation (2008 PA false flyers that police have warrants for arrest at polling stations), misinformation (wrong date in Spanish in AZ), etc.

Interesting to hear there's a paper trail in Ohio, I thought one of the major problems there in 04 was the lack of one.

Thanks for the links.

7. US civil rights groups ask international election monitors for assistance/ask for expansion

American civil rights groups have appealed to the world's biggest election monitoring organisation over concerns about controversial changes in voter registration ahead of the November 6 White House poll.

The eight civil rights group expressed their worry that millions, including those on low income as well as minorities, could be excluded from the vote for the presidency and for members of Congress.

They raised the issues during a meeting on Tuesday in Washington with representatives from the Organisation of Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), which represents 56 states in Europe, Central Asia and North America.

The OSCE is likely to refer to the concerns in an interim report on the US elections out at the end of next week. It is also expected to pass on the views of the civil rights groups to its team of international observers who are being sent to monitor elections in 40 states.
