I am a better person because of George McGovern

I have voted in 12 presidential elections and with the possible exception of 2008 my vote for Senator McGovern was my most heart felt. The Senator played an important role in my transformation from the dark side. I am shedding some tears this morning. May this good and decent man R.I.P.

See, my parents worked their butts off for him in 1972 and it opened up my 14 year old eyes to politics and the process by which we used to elect presidents. Of course, when they hosted a few college aged girls, they had to make damn sure that the teenager with raging hormones was kept away from them, especially at night. But no matter, may Mr. McGovern Rest in Peace. Thank you for opening my eyes as well as many others.

He showed us it is possible to be "better" in politics. He called upon all Americans to be better people and so many felt that was possible. No one has come along since who could match his call.
Peace to a good man.
