I believe it would be best if everybody kept pretending all the stuff we learned in school about America being the greatest democracy on earth is really still true, despite a few glitches like the Neocons, the Corporate Randians, the Dominionists and the Casino Capitalists who treat the rest of us like rubes and idiots while indulging their adolescent addiction to the accumulation of power at the expense of everyone's future.
If Romney's syndicate steals this, we should accept the status quo because really, Mitt Romney is white after all and has a good haircut and he's christian too - kind of - which is what America needs right now. Mitt Romney is the best America's authoritarian white conqueror fantasy of itself can do at the moment. Admittedly, times are tough.
So I'm just saying, if the black guy loses, we should all agree to look forward. No progress can be made if there's any kind of national protest or resistance to a corrupt, rigged, racist system. Even though American democracy has become nothing but a parody of its original intent, we need to be sensible and work within the system just like the politicians and CEOs and cultists who run things do.
Even though business as usual has gone beyond fucking insane we should really keep looking forward. After all, this is America. Americans are tough. We hunt. We kill. We bomb and torture brown people. We watch sports. We work out. We believe in God. We're Americans. We can live under any kind of insane tyranny and still feel all jacked up about ourselves.
All I'm saying is, If they steal it, America can still go on believing in hope and keep looking forward because a new day is coming. I have faith. Just like Mitt Romney's campaign slogan, I believe in America. It's all gonna work out fine.

(53,922 posts)IMO the OP is laying it all out there if Romney wins in order to goad people into doing something instead of just accepting a Romney declared "win." Sorta like how he was declared the "winner" of the first debate despite lying a mile a minute. Uh-oh, maybe they were setting us up with the first debate declared "win" for a declared election "win." Personally I don't think that scenario is going to happen but if they do steal it, there will trouble this time. It will be the beginning of the unraveling of America as we've known it. People are too aware of the repug bag of dirty vote suppression tricks to just accept it this time.

(40,416 posts)Obama has not yet lost the election. In fact, he remains the favorite to win, just as has been predicted by nearly everybody since the campaign season began.
But that doesnt stop the Mitt's gonna steal it threads here on DU.
There's a solution to this.
Work. Help people to vote. Vote.
And stop wringing your hands about stolen elections which haven't yet occurred.
Sheesh! Enough with those negative waves, Moriarity!

(11,481 posts)that have been stolen in the past? And about nobody doing anything about it? The past is a pretty good predictor of the future in a lot of cases. Maybe not every time, but quite often.
And your response is typical of Democrats in general. The solution is always GOTV, not get out in the streets. You imply that the only way to stop electoral fraud is to overcome it with more voting rather than jail cells or militant resistence.
You DO realize that, at some point in time, GOTV doesn't work anymore, correct? When the election theives continue to get away with it, at some point they KNOW that they can do ANYTHING and get away with it. Because no one calls them on it.

(40,416 posts)But I cannot go so far as painting every electoral loss as "stolen". Sometimes Dems lose. And sometimes Dems lose close contests.
However, the screeching about stolen elections is not based in fact, but only on fear. It is true that Republicans have gamed the system. But there is no evidence -- none at all -- that Republican games can turn an election that isn't very close.
It is not up to me to prosecute voter fraud. That's the job of the AGs and the DOJ. Do some of those guys also game the system by ignoring things? Possibly. But one also must realize that Obama's campaign is also asking for legal staff volunteers to observe polling places and vote counting nationwide. I myself have participated in these things in the past.
Of course you really must understand that GOTV is the best solution. If the election isn't close, it is very difficult to "steal". GOTV is the solution in spite of your denial.
If you are all worried about this, I presume that you have volunteered to phone bank, knock doors, and as a poll watcher.
Do what you can, my friend. That's all we can do. Screeching here at DU about it doesn't do much good without offering a solution. The solution is GOTV and poll watching. If you have other ideas, please put them forth. We would all like to hear them.
Thanks for your response.

(11,481 posts)in a darkly ironic sort of way, is that the only people who actually WILL militantly resist stealing the election will not be the Democrats. It will be the communists, socialists, and anarchists along with a few unions.
What's ironic is that the people who will be resisting are the same people who don't believe that elections actually change anything.
