the republicans traditionally want a low turn out election, while Democrats do well with high turn out.

and this is as unscientific as it comes... it will be low on ELECTION day (which is a good thing for me since will have to vote in between covering stories), BUT the overall will be high because many folks are voting ahead of election day.

Does this make any sense to you?

But more than just a few have told me that they already voted... by mail.

I think it will be a good turnout all around. I'm not sure I've seen any reason to doubt it. I don't think it will be a record turnout though, just because of the "I ain't votin' fer no one" people.

early voting has begun. Go out and cast your ballot tomorrow if it is possible. Get everyone you know to vote early and spend election day volunteering at your local headquarters. This is going to take an effort bigger that just showing up.
