Let me introduce you to my new hero, Preacher Phil Snyder. During a town hall meeting in Springfield MO about banning gay marriage, Preacher Snyder gave a fire-and-brimstone speech denouncing gay marriage, quoting God and Scripture...and then stopped himself midway and revealed that he had been swapping the words racial integration for gay rights to make his point...and, in point of fact, the words he was reading were direct quotes from sermons against ending segregation given by white preachers in the 50s and 60s.
You see the right of segregation Im sorry, hold on, he said, interrupting his anti-gay rights diatribe to reveal his real purpose at the microphone. Im sorry, Ive brought the wrong notes with me this evening. Ive borrowed my argument from the wrong century.
I guess the arguments Ive been hearing around Springfield lately sounded so similar to these that I got them confused, he said I hope you will not make the same mistake. I hope you will stand on the right side of history.

(22,057 posts)I knew it was too good to be true and I've never heard of a Springfield here so I poked around a little.

Its still an incredibly fabulous story and I'm really disappointed that it wasn't MY state but somehow I just knew.
Thanks for posting it-it's the best thing I've seen all day (5 minutes before debate time so the day is young!)
