facebook question

Before *timeline* I could share a friend's link to my fb page, and her original comment and all of the comments to it could end up on my fb page.

Is it true that with timeline, there is no way to do this? If I try to share a friend's link, I only see the linked story/picture now, but none of the comments.

if I click on the word "link" or the link itself, it just shows the story.

If the person that I've taken it from only lets friends read their posts, I'm not sure the original comment would show to one of my friends that isn't their friend.
I think it used to be different.
