Who would've thought? A Kentuckian, southerner, countryish music.
Says the country was in a bad way when Obama took over. It's taken us a while to get our way out of it, but you can tell America is coming out of it. This is a crucial time. Obama needs four more years.
He also talks about Romney flip-flopping.
Probably won't change any votes, but I thought it was surprising and interesting.

(89 posts)Just a guess but I wonder if being around liberals in Hollywood opened his mind up (assuming he didn't vote Democrat before).
The arts and entertainment scene have done a ton for the liberal movement just as far as exposing people to it. I think a lot of that stems from the fact that many singers, artists, directors and even some actors grew up middle class and feel like they should use their money and voice to give back which is a big part of being a Democrat.
Edited: read the above and learned more about Cyrus being a democrat.

Not all Kentuckians, southerners, or people who like country music are Republicans....
I was born in South Carolina, my parents are from Kentucky; I live in Kentucky currently and there are a lot more like me.

And I've loved Billy since the early 90's, even though I typically loathe country music.

(30,994 posts)He was a world war 1 veteran - gassed in the trenches in France - a coal miner, a union organizer, and a racist ass.
But I do believe he'd see Romney as the carpetbagger that he is.
I believe he'd vote for that nice young 'boy'.
Pappy lived in company-owned towns as a child and when he worked the mines.
He fucking RETIRED to a union job at a paper mill in Port Townsend, Washington, so his family could have union benefits.
Three of 6 of his sons got union jobs at that mill.
Just sayin' that old school 'southern' country music loving po' folk can't see the writing on the wall.
Pappy never spoke to us grandchildren much. When I was on leave getting ready to go to Vietnam, he said:
"It's OK to keep your ass down. It really is. Come see us when you come home."

(10,942 posts)I know a few who were besides themselves after Obama's poor first debate but started smiling ear to ear after the last two debates. There are country music lovers that have an insane hatred for President Obama, but to paint the entire population of country music lovers in the hate Obama mode is wrong, this coming from a person that absolutely don't care for country music.

In addition, Miley has come out publicly for LGBT rights, and was lambasted over it because of her Disney/Hannah Montana image. Also, her godmother is Dolly Parton, who is a pretty cool lady.

I have renewed respect for them coming out and sayng what we're not ashamed to say about President Obama,
you're the man! Thank you for taking a thankless job at a troubled time in our nation's history and somehow reversing it's downward spiral. Against all those who worked against you and tried to defeat you every step of the way. We believe.

(1,184 posts)Our state has an annoying habit of voting for Democrats in local races (governor, attorney general, state legislature), and voting for Republicans nationally. I think Clinton in '96 was the last Democratic presidential candidate to win Kentucky.
Once upon a time, Eastern Kentucky was solid Democrat because of the strength of coal mining unions. Now they vote against their own interests. Too bad.
