Every skater is now facing "Irreparable Harm" because Kamila Valieva has the added enhancement to out perform everyone else.
I think Kamila should do the right thing and withdraw. She can't win a medal and is denying every other skater who doesn't have to use banned and illegal substances to medal. Everyone else is now at a disadvantage.
Every event Kamila is now tainted. She is not that special. Just another doping cheater. I don't really care how old she is. She should not be allowed to compete with the others who follow the rules set forth by the Olympic committees.

I doubt she had any choice about taking whatever her coaches tell her to take either.
But, it sure feels like she's getting special treatment.

(21,809 posts)The fact is, she's still a minor.
And right now, AFAIC, every"adult" around her, from her coach to her sports governing body in Russia, to the international officials (IOC, CAS, etc.) has done everything short of statutory rape to this kid. These days, given the scandals surrounding USA Gymnastics from a few years back, I wouldn't put that last thing past them.

(15,657 posts)I know that would crush the Olympic dreams of many, but it would be the right thing to do.
Alternative: any event that Kabila wins (or any other ROC figure skater, since they are coached by the same corrupt, abusive coach), the other winners should refuse to share the podium with her.

(2,960 posts)then the medal presentation will be cancelled. The was part of the disclosure today.

(53,066 posts)which begs the question of why they are allowing her to compete.

(21,625 posts)My wife told me that earlier and said Im done with figure skating. I said, surely they meant if she wins a medal that she just wont get one and the people below her would all move up a spot. But my wife didnt hear wrong!
But why the hell are the other competitors going to be Punished for her positive test! Thats BULLSHIT.
And I actually supported the skater. I saw her the victim of a corrupt system. Shes only 15. I was hoping they would determine the substance didnt have much effect on her performance, let her skate, and BAN the coaches instead.
But no. We get this shit response. No medal ceremony for people that busted their ass all their lives????
Fuck off IOC
LisaL
(44,974 posts)They can't do that, so they decided not to have a ceremony at all.

(15,952 posts)She and Russia are depriving everyone else who has sacrificed years of training will be denied the opportunity to stand on the platform for their achievements.
She and Russia have tarnished the events. They are dopers! broadbrush yep!
And the arbitors are wrong to protect her.

(5,969 posts)without knowing the result of the B sample. It's still a possibility to void any results later. It's not a possibility to award her a medal for a competition she didn't participate in.
LisaL
(44,974 posts)If sample B comes back clean, but she was not allowed to compete, then irreparable harm has been done to her.

(9,035 posts)...and has had negative tests since? I think I am recalling that correctly. I imagine some drugs stay longer in your system than others. How about the rate of elimination in this one? Shit, weed stays in your system for at least 30 days, and you get absolutely no benefit from going cold turkey after the 1st day or so.
saying that, I don't know what the IOC rules are.
LisaL
(44,974 posts)She has tested clean since.

(34,451 posts)something like 20 days to release doping results -- especially before major events like the Olympics -- and this was long past that date. Sorry, but that lab should be bounced. But I don't trust the IOC to do anything right when a controversy erupts. They're always so self-important and ham-handed no matter what.

(3,402 posts)Russia, in its totality should have been banned to from the Olympics.
Reminds me of a beer commercial a long time ago where the guy used to say "call me Al, call me John...and some other names, but call me."
Call me Russia, or call me ROC but let me compete...I mean, where is the punishment for cheating?

(23,337 posts)And, the fact that Putin was at the opening ceremonies says it all. Those athletes are Russian and competing for Russia. Their team name may change but we all know who they are.
SergeStorms
(19,204 posts)since I can remember. They're serial cheaters, and should be banned from the games entirely.
I don't know how any country can have faith in the IOC. Until they all stand together as one, this will never change. How can countries attract the best athletes if they know they're already at a disadvantage?
