Replacing all the food in my freezer 2-3 times a year. I don't eat anything very expensive so it's not big $$$, but it seems so pointlessly costly.
I was in the grocery store last week and picked up a bunch of bargain frozen pasta and ice cream that was on sale.
And I thought to myself, "These are on sale so I should buy them today, but will I have continuous electrical power long enough to eat them, or is buying more than a few days worth of frozen food a waste of money in the long run?"
So I am actually standing calculating how on sale something would have to be to offset the risk of holding too much food at once...
Then I thought to myself, "WTF? Is this Somalia? Have I gotten this pessimistic? I can't believe I am questioning whether our power grid justifies buying a few weeks worth of food at one time."
Then I turn on the news... Oy.

Just curious. We've never lost food from a power loss, here in Tempe.

(23,500 posts)We're kinda out in the sticks and the power goes out here rather often. Most recently was 2 days ago.
We have a generator and a transfer switch.
