In addition to OH, VA and FL, Obama is actively campaigning in NV, CO, IA, WI and NH. And for good reason.
The five smaller states comprise a backup strategy of winning without Ohio. And it's paying off. In polls released this week, Obama has an edge in all five states. With VA and FL practically tied and a comfortable lead in Ohio, Romney cannot win by simply sweeping OH, VA and FL. While Romney is kept busy trying to win these states, he also needs one of the five smaller states. And it doesn't look good for him right now.
Let's not forget, NC is still in play, and even though Obama isn't stopping there, we have a huge lead in early voting turnout. The ground game is strong there, and I believe NC and other states like it are potential flips due to the massive effort being put out on the ground by the Obama campaign.
So even if the Secretary of State pulls some kind of trick on Election day by not counting the early votes (as has been rumored here) or even if they are able to steal it, Obama has a solid strategy for winning. I suspect Obama is very aware of the election issues in OH and I believe they have prepared for some scenario where the results are muddied or tampered with.

(7,820 posts)To be fighting for Ohio and Florida, but figuring out realistic ways to win without either. This is why we should feel cautiously optimistic. Obama has many, many more paths to 270 than Romney does. That said, GOTV!!

coverage of Occupy Portland back in it's heyday.. sometimes it depends on
the reporter/anchor, and the spin they put or don't put on it.

(94,792 posts)...they're making a play in VA / Fl / CO/ NV etc. because Ohio isn't enough. Assuming all usual red/blue splits, you need Ohio plus one other toss-up. Better to compete in five and win 1-2 than compete in 1 and risk losing everything.

(1,201 posts)I really think Virginia is the safety net. If the president can carry Virginia, he can still lose OH, Florida, and Colorado and win reelection with about 276.
If things start to look strange on election night, will the networks tow the corporate line and pooh, pooh any attempts to suggest that the numbers don't add up? I'm very concerned about this. The Koch Brothers are not spending 1/2 billion dollars without expecting results. Two questions:
A. Will the margin of error be to great to steal?
B. Will the "Sheeple" roll over again and let the Republicons steal another election?

Obama needs to insist that every single vote is counted in Ohio if the alternate strategy you are suggesting fails.
