just WOW: A Campaign foretold in an 150 year-old cartoon…

This cartoon is from 1862.

It effectively distills the relationship between the modern conservative movement and President Obama. It also explains the Romney campaign strategy that white folks should reject everything that President Obama has done to help them—to save our Nation from ruin—over the last four years because he is a Ni-CLANG and that they should vote for Mitt because he is white.

In fact, the entire Romney campaign can be boiled down to just a few words: “Vote for Mitt, he’s white”. There are no policies or specifics, just code-talking and word salads from Mitt and his surrogates. Take away the appeals to white power and Mitt holds an empty hand. They can try and hide it, or whitewash it with weasel words and bullshit, but the Negrophope Strategy is the foundation of their campaign.

Do they really understand what they are doing? No, but do they care? No or they'd be on DU or some other place to get real facts and not try to blame it all on the poor etc... in order to bring themselves up at the expense of "those people".

Snapping at the hand that seeks to help them, could save their jobs, their health, this country. Guess it proves this:

If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide. ~ Abraham Lincoln

The problem with the GOP culture of death is that while they glady seek to commit national suicide, they intend, like a battering husband, to kill the wife and children who need to escape his abuse, before taking his own life. They are working to destroy everything in this country to have their way.

I think it was semi-autobiographical by a female journalist who was seriously scarred by her insane parents. She and her brothers were sent to live with the racist grandmother for a while. the coolest kids were gay or at least exploring the possibility.

I'm hopeful for the progress of humanity although
sometimes I think there are two distinct subspecies
(at least two) -- and they're evolving in very different
directions. Assuming the earth survives, the tolerant
ones, I believe, will flourish and the sickly mean
bigoted and hateful greedy ones will die off, maybe

I am sure every generation since the civil rights movement (I use this time since that is when racist attitudes were starting to become looked down upon) thought the old racist would die off and usher in a new group of non racist. All those racist did was transfer their ignorance to their children and grandchildren. I absolutely agree that my generation is a lot less racist than previous ones. However, there are still a lot of ignorance in my age group. All you have to do is check out a college frat party during halloween, be in a history/sociology course or be around during black history month on a college campus to see the crap that still occurs.

from generation to generation sometimes. The steps are small and incremental. For instance, my grandfather was looked down upon by his family for marrying a German 'DP' (displaced persons). After WW1, my grandmother had come from what WAS Austria-Hungary but was an ethnic German, and was seriously discriminated against here in Canada. So back then, my grandfather (a French-Canadian whose family goes back to the 1600's in Canada) marrying her was regarded as somewhat radical, but 'at least she was Catholic.' Then their children, the oldest 2 sons married the same religion but my oldest aunt decided to marry a Protestant (big deal back then). Then many years later my other aunt married someone who was Metis. Then my youngest (by a lot) aunt, many years later, married someone of East Indian descent. Among my cousins, it's a rainbow of people during our family reunions. My brother married someone who is black. It took my grandparents awhile to accept my East Indian uncle, which was ironic considering the backlash THEY endured when they were married. But the rest of us didn't blink. And when my brother married my SIL, my grandparents didn't even say anything - which means over the years they realized what they did with respect to my uncle was wrong.

Of course, I'm in Canada where multiculturalism is encouraged, but I do think it's getting better overall. Slowly, yes. Think about how difficult it was to be in a mixed marriage 50 years ago, compared to now. Eventually, everyone will just be a mix of all cultures and as that happens, racism will dwindle. I really don't think kids today are 'just as racist'. Not in my area at all.

I strongly believe that my generation is less racist than my parents' generation, and my kids' generation is less racist than mine. All evidence I've seen points to this.

The laws have changed, for one thing. When there are laws that enforce racist beliefs, as there were when I was a child, this encourages people to be racist. When I think about the blatant injustices that were legal when I was a kid, it's mind-boggling. Things really are better now. Most of the hardcore racists are people who were young in the 1950s.

My almost 4 year old grandson, saw a little AA boy and ran over and hugged him. They were talking up a storm and hugged bye again before we left. They played for as long as we were waiting for our lunch. He has no racism whatsoever in his system. Thanks to me, his Mom and Dad and television cartoons, that picture black children and hispanic and asian as well as white children side by side. God Bless Sesame Street, as they started it all. Guess that's why the racists want to do away with it. I believe racism exists and it will color his world eventually, as it did with my boys. Unfortunately, they have lived in Florida for over 20 years among friends who wake up and go to sleep racists. Southern states are not alone with racism. It is just as obvious and prevalent in Northern climes.

It is my experience that people who are not very successful harbor the worst prejudices. It makes them feel superior, when they are really abject failures. I not saying that this applies to all who are prejudiced, but to a sizable minority. I have lived in the South and have many relatives who reside in Georgia . I can safely say that the majority hold a degree of prejudice. I am thankful that I was raised mostly in the North. As Paul said for the grace of God it could be me.

That is a form of resistance that drives the first group around the bend, just being alive and doing well. At one time this came from wingnut groups. Now it's in mainstream media. We should not be in this place in this country.

Where I live is urban and integrated. We have many people from other nations here who don't have this history and are living prosperously, just like the DNC highlighted at the convention. For them, the promise of America with opportunity has come true and they love it here. People are making futures for their families independent of this dead end racist mentality in older areas.

They live in fear that if they lose their dominance it will be because someone else is going to dominate them.

It never occurred to them to share. They believe in winner take all and that makes them think in absolutes. Either you are at the top or the bottom with nothing in between and on top of that they think blacks are out for revenge for they way they were treated because that's what they would do if it happened to them. They have nightmares of white people being shot on sight. Just listen to that KKK report posted elsewhere. They are convinced a time is coming where the races are going to clash. It never occurred to them that the races are going to ignore their race and just be people who are occupying this planet as equals.

BUT I see multi-racial couples walking down the street holding hands and not being chased down. Once again, does it happen, absolutely. Even one time is to many times. But growing up, that damn near would have been unthinkable.

I think in the next 50 years the Gay & Lesbian community will have equal rights.

America showed the world how we could go from slavery to having a black man as President- but instead of being proud of that, and supportive, the media has taken every opportunity to smear Obama.

When he won the Nobel, they said- that's nothing....when he hunted down Osama Bin Ladin- big deal-OR George Bush deserved the credit for it- (Yes- heard that on Hannity yesterday).

Obama fixed insurance companies so they have to accept pre-existing conditions- how dare he-a communist!- and then took student loans away from the banks to loan money to students directly without bank fees- now the banks hate him- etc, etc, no matter what he did it was turned around to sound terrible by the media.

So if Mitt the Twit wins, God help us all. They will try to steal it, I am certain of that.

Of course the propaganda radio- owned by Rupert Murdock, will take everything he does and make Mitt a hero.... and ignorant people sitting in their trailers will cheer for him.
