The Big Blow A' Comin' Next Week: Commander In Chief Versus The Vulture-Capitalist
As most DU'ers know there's a very large, scary hurricane off the Atlantic coast threatening the Northeastern and mid-Atlantic states. That storm looks likely to raise the devil with people's homes, people's work-places, people's jobs, people's lives and people's safety.
Many of us remember Katrina and its aftermath, not just the bad decisions at the local level in New Orleans, but the bad decisions at FEMA and other federal agencies, and how the damage and suffering lingered for years not just in New Orleans, but also elsewhere in Louisiana and Mississippi. What happened in New Orleans and to places like Biloxi and Pas Chretien can occur to the US eastern seaboard.
As much as I find the idea repellent, I hope that the President steps forward as Commander-in-Chief. We are facing an unscrupulous, amoral opposition that wouldn't hesitate to politicize such a potential disaster should it (God forbid) come real. Let's hope and pray that President Obama steps forward with preparation and highly visible leadership instead of something like Dubya's fly-over and Brownie's disorganization and apathy.
