She shared her own experience with rape in a vocal letter to Moudock. Powerful.

though it seems a little out of place to say this here, she has an exquisitely beautiful smile.

(5,810 posts)3. If you didn't hear her letter to Richard Mourdock, I urge you to do so.
I was in tears listening to her speak with a powerful voice, directly to Mourdock and others who believe like he does that it is HIS (their) interpretation of faith that should prevail. Who better than one who has been raped and survived the assault to speak with authority on the subject? I was so proud of her for courage and determination to speak out loudly with such authority on the subject of what it is like to go through an experience like rape. To dare to speak to those who would try to take our country back to a more cruel and archaic status for women was empowering to me and I am sure to women everywhere who heard her (or will hear her) statement.
Women and those who love us and care about us should rise up and speak loudly and forcefully to those who would suppress our voices and our rights as human beings. We cannot and will not go back to the way things were before Roe v. Wade. Making abortion illegal will not make it go away, only more dangerous and difficult to obtain. I do understand their belief that abortion takes away a life and if they are faced with an unintended pregnancy, I think it is totally understandable that an abortion is unthinkable to them. However, for them to make that choice for EVERY OTHER PERSON in that situation (especially pregnancy that is a result of rape) is just as unthinkable to me. And Melissa Harris-Perry emphasized this point articulately and passionately.
