(642 posts)I've been questioning whether polls showing Republicans more enthusiastic were accurate. I've had a feeling all along
that come Nov. 7th the narrative is going to be that African American, Latino and Women voters brought the President to
a comfortable re-election.
This is one more sign that that may be how this is playing out.

(238 posts)I was at the polls in Columbus, OH(daughter volunteered for MoveOn, I helped). Our precinct was mostly dems. They took away two of our voting machines. We were at the poll all day and saw the wait time from 1 to 3 hours. It was pouring down rain. People left the line all day long. Most because they either were going to be late to work or on their lunch hour. We begged with them to stay. A few did. Many did not. Meanwhile, a co-worker of mine (who lives in a predominately Republican voting precinct) said there was no wait time for her to vote. They had plenty of machines.
I can see this happening again in the election. So glad for early voting.

Republicans are not known for being patient. Waiting in line? Unthinkable!

(7,887 posts)DEMs are too bone weary to jump up and down and make all kinds of noise about every little thing Obama has done right and track every freaking lie Robme tells. We know it's 65,000 and counting on Robme's lies and we're mad as hell about his every stinking ploy to make a grab for our country, but we hunker down and prepare for the fight like the Colonial Army did when they were low on bullets facing the British. "Wait until you see the whites of their eyes, then shoot."
The fact that we are putting ourselves on the line against the psychopathic onslaught of the right wing election fraud machine every time we speak up, sign up, go out to vote, get out others to vote shows we mean business. We don't need to be no freaking carnival to be seriously behind our candidate. We need to show up and do our thing, make sure the box doesn't corrupt our vote and watch those who count our votes like we are eagles and they are tasty vermin.
Their tiny little crowds can not make up with "enthusiasm" what we have in sheer numbers and dedication to the truth and our President.

If voting doesn't matter, if nothing is going to change, if they're all the same, and any other propaganda put out by the corporatist party of the Koch brothers, fossil fuel advocates and right wing religionists, the GOP would not be desperate to suppress and depress the vote.
This logic has not been missed by people and I thank god or whatever there is in the universe, for the wisdom tney are showing by taking the time to make the peaceful revolution at the ballot box happen again. The GOP owned media refuses to listen to people, but they are going to be heard.
This heals my heart. to these voters!

(135,425 posts)It helps to enfranchise those who cannot get away to vote on the First Tuesday in November because they get paid by the hour and their bosses will not pay them to go vote. People run the risk of getting in a line before work and waiting, waiting, waiting, then having to either go to work without reaching the front of the line or skipping work and risking getting fired. Alternatively, they can try getting in line after work and hope they don't get shut out or they run out of ballots.
I think people catch a bit less shit on early voting days, too. Must piss of the GOP....they'll probably find some way to fuck with it come 2016....
I know I am one lucky so-and-so. I have never had to wait more than ten minutes to vote (when I've voted in person).

(42,770 posts)gloomy gus hat on....I think, when the repukes see the early voting results for Obama, it will bring them out in droves. Maybe this is the down side for publishing the dem/rep #s. In Texas, it is generic, so you see the totals but not the split
Sorry, taking hat off now
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)Said one senior official: But the most important thing about early vote is one thing and one thing only: are you getting your sporadic voters to vote? Because if its just chasing people who are going to vote anyway than its just a zero sum game. But all the data I see says we are getting our sporadics to vote at a higher rate than they are, which, especially for any Democratic candidate, is a bigger challenge because we have lower propensity voters. Thats exactly what we are doing and we feel great about that.

(135,425 posts)I'd like to see sufficient polling places so that NO ONE has to wait. I'd like to see more early voting, secure online voting, more opportunity, not less, to vote.
I live in a rinkydink town. Go in to vote, and you'll know at least one person working the polls.
I really don't understand why you think it is "sad" that I don't have an inordinate wait. I bring elderly people to the polls in large numbers--the fact that they don't have a long wait standing, with no chair available to them, is a good thing.
Very strange, that comment. Very strange indeed--perhaps you'd like to explain what you meant? Do you perhaps find suffering to be enlightening? I find it to be disenfranchising, myself--but that's just me.
I look forward to hearing your explanation of your comment.

(14,040 posts)african-american churches will have busses ready after church tomorrow somewhere. NC, maybe? It reminds me a lot of the civil rights era. They can try and steal or surpress their votes but they aren't going down without a fight.
I think trying to take away a right this community fought so hard to win will have the opposite effect the GOP had hoped for.

NightWatcher
(39,343 posts)Since anyone can vote at any early voting site in the county, they are using picture ID's to prove who you are. You dont have to use one, but it does make things a lot easier. They told us poll watchers that picture ID's were ok for early voting, but they shouldnt be asking for them come Nov 6. I dont really get it, but it's the accepted way.
LP2K12
(885 posts)They were scanning IDs today when I went to early vote. Party did not matter. Keep your voter registration card in your wallet, all we want is your photo ID. *Swipe*

(260 posts)The acceptance of racism through silence while others spread racist propaganda is the #1 reason I will not support a Republican candidate for office. The silence is deafening. We have worked too hard. People have died for the dream of equality. Until the Republican party takes a strong stance against racism, I cannot support their candidates. I'm proud to live at a time when America got its first African American president, who was running against a women in the same party. As we come to accept we are all in this together, we can look forward to an amazing future of increased prosperity and peace. That time could be just around the corner and we can't turn back now.

(9,314 posts)All but three voters in line were black. As they waited, they held hands and prayed.
Our father, our God, began the Rev. R.L. Gundy of Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. Our ancestors paid a dear price to have a right to vote, and we dont take it for granted. Yet the enemy does all it can to disenfranchise us. God, go with us into these polls and every poll around the country.
He continued, We are not fearful. We are not afraid. We will not be turned away.
And the crowd said a somber Amen.
Then, in a more jubilant mood, someone screamed, Fired up? And a chant began: Ready to vote!
Fired up

(5,644 posts)...in the mid 60s. I just had my first child and I was tired and over worked. My mother called me every half hour and told me to get my tired butt up and out the door to vote until I did. She would do that EVERY election period until I did it on my own.
At that time I didn`t want to hear how much our people went through to get the vote. Heh, I did the same thing to my sons.

Florida drivers license
Florida identification card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles
United States passport
Debit or credit card
Military identification
Student identification
Retirement center identification
Neighborhood association identification
Public assistance identification.

If you do not have the proper identification, you will be provided with a provisional ballot. Your provisional ballot will count if the signature on the provisional ballot envelope matches the signature on your voter registration application.

(8,361 posts)there were at least 200 people in line, so we left and are going to try again this afternoon. If it is still crowded will go tomorrow when most everyone is working. Lines are going to move slowly, at best, because the ballot is long, with many amendments (some of which are horrible). I can't stand too long because of neuromas in my feet and arthritis in my knees, but I'm determined to vote early.
I went to the local library. There was a mixed crowd of voters, but not too many elderly - I guess they're like me and will wait until they don't have to stand in line so long.

(8 posts)If you can try arriving at the polling place around 6:45am- 7:15am. I went to my local library in Duval Co and there wasn't such a long line. Try going early in the morning. The line moved pretty fast once the doors were open. Probably waited less than 20 mins.
