Heyo,
I am going to try and get my crippled butt down to the early voting site today. Issue, though!
In my area, there is a Republican candidate running unopposed for a certain position. I haven't run into this situation before (not that I've been alive long enough for many elections). Am I allowed to just mark nothing at all for that, or will it screw up the ballot scanning/whatever?
Thanks!

if it would invalidate my ballot and she said it would not..might
be different in other states,however.

(111,319 posts)There were write in spots in other races, but not that one, or I'd have written "any random Democrat right off the street."
I left it blank. It will count as an undervote in that race.
She might have been a wonderful judge. However, she's not local and all I know about her is that she's running for a party that has degenerated into an interstate racketeering organization. No thanks.
Last year, a former GOP DA who was great in his job was running for district judge. He switched his party to Democratic, so I did get to vote for him and would do it again.
I just can't vote for anyone who is part of a crooked party.

(53,041 posts)Leaving it blank isn't a problem. People don't vote on certain races all the time.
If you write in a candidate, it might put that ballot in a category where it needs to be hand counted later. How you feel about that likely depends on the election officials in your county.
I don't know for sure how this works, but I'm thinking of the Franken recount in MN. We have the same voting system of scanners reading forms. I have never written in candidate though.

(49,313 posts)the only time you run into trouble is with an 'overvote'
and call the local Dem party HQ if you need a ride

(3,491 posts)if the candidate isn't on my Dem party voter guide, I leave it blank. Happens occasionally around here when a Pub judge runs unopposed.

(34,655 posts)they may scan it and inform you of undervotes, you just say "fine" and be done with it.
But ask at your polling place to be sure.
Good luck! Do you have a ride? if anyone needs rides I know that people do donate their time to get folks to the polls.
