Oh, that 1% - even in 1765

I am reading a book on colonial history and found an interesting quote a New Yorker made in 1765.

“Is it equitable that 99, rather 999, should suffer for the extravagance or grandeur of one, especially when it is considered that men frequently owe their wealth to the impoverishment of their neighbors?”

The 1% and their insatiable greed have been a perpetual problem throughout history. Now, once again, we have to endure the whining and sniveling of the idle rich as they complain about all of those lazy poor people who do not contribute anything to their coffers - even as they bleed all the lazy poor people dry.
