Early Voting the Final Wait Time (at 6:42pm there are 6 hr. waits in Miami - voting until 2am)

Early Voting the Final Wait Time. By Geniusofdespair

The Elections Department, as of 6:42pm, had the final wait time for early voting: Coral Reef Library, The Election Department, Miami Lakes Public Library, Model City Library, South Dade Regional Library and West Kendall Regional Library all have 6 hour waits. That means they won't get out of there till 1 or 2am. Then, and only then, will early voting be over.

We are ahead by a large margin in RV in FL in many polls. But when it comes to LV, we are not.

Plus, when people see the lines on TV they'll think twice about going at all on Nov. 6th

I bet there will be huge lines on Tuesday as well.

But wouldn't this hurt GOP voters as must as Dem voters?

The elderly could never stand in line that long. A good idea would be to rent wheelchairs. I hope people bring beach chairs to the poles.

because if they do many will not vote, but i am sure the lines are only in Dem. areas if so there should be a law suit based on the 2001 Supreme Court case Bush v Gore charging unequal opportunity in voting.

The Supervisor of Elections sets the number and site of early voting locations. If there aren't enough of them, which obviously there aren't, that needs to be taken up at the county level, not at the state level.

Alternately, early voters in Florida could have mailed in their ballots or dropped them off, no waiting.

Yes, these lines are horrendous, but they won't be changed until the people that are responsible, i.e., the local Supervisors of Election, are called on it.

Given that, why didn't the county Supervisors of Elections open up more early voting locations? If you know that you have half as much to time for voting, then it would only make sense to open up twice as many locations.

Cutting back the number of voting days sucks, no doubt about it. But the local Supervisors of Election did nothing to mitigate the situation.

instead of on occasion. It's so sad because then they get screwed those years they don't vote and end up in situations like this (or with draconian unnecessary Voter ID laws like we ended up with here in PA).

Turns out the wait times also were against the oppositions favor...

...after public outrage suddenly the wait times improved dramatically.
