Will the Repukes try to steal this election? Why the hell not?

They got away with it in 2000 and 2004 unscathed. They have the money why not try? What have they got to lose?

I know that many will poo-poo this concern because of polls or some such rationalization. And I hope to hell they are correct.

But we were shocked in 2000 when the Republicans blatantly stole the presidential election. But we did nothing. As far as I know we literally did nothing and the results were devastating. Some of us crawled into our denial bubble while others told ourselves that it couldn’t happen again. Surely the Democratic Party will recognize the need to take action to prevent this happening again. Nope, it happened again. They fooled us once in 2000, shame on them. They did it again in 2004, we must be idiots.

To give some credit, the president Barack Obama administration is actively attacking reports of voter suppression, but will it be enough? And I believe that about 25% of votes will be tabulated on unverifiable voting machines owned and controlled by Republicans.

A fellow DU’er, that posts as “Time for Change” (Dale Tavris) has written a book about these assaults on our democracy. The book is “Democracy Undone”.

they weren't stopped in 2000 or 2004, so why not? Not only were they not stopped, they weren't even called on it. Mostly what I heard FROM DEMOCRATS was something along the lines of "get over it, we lost fair and square". Now the meme goes, "sure they steal the elections, so we've got the gotv so we have so overwhelming of a majority that they can't steal the vote". Of course that's bullshit too. They've stolen close races and haven't paid a price, so why will a landslide stop them from stealing it? At some point that's exactly the way it works when you don't call them on it.

The question for me is not, "Will they steal the election?", it's "What are we going to do about it when they DO steal it?" I'm sure we'll lawyer up and try to give them a sound thrashing in the courts. Yeah, that'll work. NOT! It'll be expidited to the SCOTUS and Romney will be awarded the presidency by a 5-4 decision. If we surround DC and the Supreme Court building with about 2 or 3 million people and stop commerce, we might have an effect, but the courts won't do it.
