I didn't get my absentee ballot in time here in NYC! I sent in my application 3 weeks ago. Now with the gas shortage here in NYC and missing work last week, I don't think I will be able to drive down. I am so mad I want to kill somebody! Somebody else in a swing state who wasn't going to vote VOTE! Make me feel better.
Sorry everybody

(110 posts)you can get a provisional ballot at a local polling place?
Call the local county clerk's office and ask what you can do.

(73 posts)It was processed on the 28th and I called them and they said they sent it on the 31st. I should have gotten it by know. I'm now leaning on blowing off my work and driving down anyway. I have a 1/4 tank of gas. It should get me past the gas shortage zone. Fuckin Sandy!

(2,237 posts)I haven't been out today, so I can't tell you if it's a different story, but there's still lots of gas stations not open here near Philadelphia.
On the other hand, all the traffic lights were finally working on my 40 minutes drive home from work on Friday.

(7,290 posts)I can't speak to Virginia, as I've never voted actual absentee here, just absentee in person. But I know that when I voted in Florida, they wouldn't mail absentee ballots out of state unless you were in the military, college or were living overseas for your job or school. In other words, if you had moved to another state absent military or college, you couldn't vote in Florida. That was many years ago, don't know how it is now.
Perhaps they mailed it to your Virginia address?

(11,411 posts)The instructions specifically said that the absentee ballot had to be received by a certain time on election day. I paid $32.00 for next day delivery. As a poor college student, that really upset me. My reaction was not to vote during the rest of my time in college. I did not know if there was somewhere that I could have complained. I hope that you are going to be able to vote.

(73 posts)but I would have to stay home and wait for it. My mail usually comes late and I would have to boogie to get it to fedex to overnight it. They need it by 7 on election day so its possible. I'm back off the ledge now and leaning to blowing off work and driving down to vote.
