(22,143 posts)He's a real philanthropist. I would also like to send a big "fuck you" out to the haters and those calling him a sell out. Disney is going to make Star Wars gold again after Lucas nearly ruined the entire thing with the idiotic prequels. This is an epic win all the way around.

(2,104 posts)terrible acting/directing as well as being poorly written/thought out. That and the horrible revisions of classic films that changed important things and some pointless tacky effects jammed in, now witness the same explosion this time it goes vertical instead of horizontal like the last film we re-edited.
The Disney I 'know' best is the heavy handed one from my youth some 20+ years ago when they tried to put a disney treatment on things and enforce their will. They have since seemed to learn that isn't what people want, well most people, and seem to let the properties/companies they buy do what they want (mostly). For me the initial bad impression made by the disney that caught my eye is still the one that sticks in my mind over the one that doesn't push itself onto everything which might be what others feel about it as well.
You are correct, objectively too many people are 'so quick to throw someone under the bus', but I threw George Lucas under the bus over a decade ago, bad decisions with writers/story arcs/games/etc and the films just finalized his screwups in my view. I can't speak for others in the other thread but I'd imagine that saying he sold out is just the latest thing someone who 'threw him under the bus' might say or feel about him selling out to disney for whatever reason. Perhaps he's tired of being the force behind the SW IP and in conjunction with wanting to do some good was looking for a way to let someone/thing else take over the reins while remaining a force in the making of the new stories ie being held on as a consultant instead of the person in charge.
Back to the overall thread.
Lucas was already a billionaire that he didn't decide to keep more billions just means he isn't a super greedy POS like many super rich greedy POS billionaires in the world. He was worth roughly 3 billion before the sale and probably could've given away a billion plus w/o selling anything. Someone doing the right thing doesn't make them a saint in my view, because there really isn't any real sacrifice being made here or in most of the events others seem to think makes a person 'above' others or 'great' for doing the right/charitable/caring/compassionate/human thing.
I'll be more excited when I see what and where he puts how much of the majority of the 4 billion dollars into.
Nowhere in the linked pieces does it say Lucas will give 4 billion away just the majority which 2.1billion satisfies.

(4,876 posts)Horrible guy who ruined your childhood. Whatever. "Finalized his screwups". Yeah like ILM, Pixar, Avid, Digital Projection and THX sound. What a useless guy Lucas is. It's not like he did anything for the film industry or moviegoing.
We could do this all day. You see Lucas as the guy who fucked up Star Wars, I see him as the man who changed the way we see movies.

(2,104 posts)feeling the same way hence your response.
Maybe you could do this all day for your hero but I simply don't care that much about it beyond making a post here and there. A post I'll add said a lot more than just 'he fucked up SW' but that seems to be all you got out of it.

Hope he's not going to follow him down that path.
I'm holding my praise until he says "public education"
