FRUM: Vote out Obama ---or else "Republicans will go completely ape and destroy the country."

Former George W. Bush speechwriter David Frum makes such capitulation explicit.

The reason Americans should vote for Mitt Romney, says Frum, is that Congressional Republicans "have shown themselves a destructive and irrational force in American politics" and will only get worse if President Obama is re-elected.

If anything, says Frum, electing Obama to a second term will aggravate and empower these extremists, perhaps even provoke them into causing another impeachment crisis. By electing Romney, says Frum, we can avoid all that and discourage Congressional Republicans "from deliberately pushing the US into recession in 2013."

Holy cats! says Mother Jones' Kevin Drum, that's "the most overt form of the surrendering-to-terrorists argument that I've seen yet." Vote out Obama, Frum seems to be saying, or else "Republicans will go completely ape and destroy the country."

As they have shown again and again, today's Republicans no longer want to govern America so much as radically remake it.

If the tea-party caucus stays in place in the House of Representatives, you don't know what extreme they will resort to....

...we have a local candidate who doesn't know when to quit and keeps "upping the ante" with each increasingly desperate move to stave off humiliation...thereby adding more humiliation.

Any sane Republican will see that if they continue down the road of obstruction they will not only hurt the country but also hurt themselves... personally, politically and financially. They may hate Obama but they love their jobs and their money more.

They are ideologues, racists, mysongynists, and every base element of our citizenry who have finally been given full throated voice in the media and access to power. Very dangerous combinations. If you remove the someone you hate more than your job or money, you can always reshape the world the way you want it. This is the precipice we are on.

The natives have been restless and a Willard loss on Tuesday will make an ugly mess that is the rushpublican party even uglier...and it's a train headed right over Willard's warm corpse and all remaining "moderates" in the party. Frump's fear is he's about to be completely without a party...a "moderate" (yes, David...we remember you being a chickenhawk) in a party of extremes and on the losing side.

The teabaggers will blame the establishment as not being "conservative" enough while the "moderates" will blame the teabaggers for losing the Senate (Murdouck & Akin) and so it will go and who knows who will come out ahead. My hopes is the infighting lasts well into 2016 and their obstructionist games cost them in 2014.

If we're going to have a fiscal cliff, let the GOP self-immolate. Go after defense...

Dave Lutz of Stifel, Nicolaus is looking for a "footprint" in the market that could be consistent with traders predicting a Romney victory.

He finds 4 big datapoints:

MBS IMPACT - A second term for Obama could lead to changes in FHFA leadership, possibly posing principal reduction-related policy risk for MBS / Expect investors to scale back expectations of how much agency MBS Fed will purchase under QE3 if Romney wins (CSFB, Barclays) – Normally, we have a 1% spread between 30Y FNMA Coupons, and the 10YY. On QE3 – that collapsed down to 4bp. Over the last month, as Romney has gained momentum – it has rallied to 55bp – up 10bp in the last week alone.

DOLLAR AND GOLD - Romney win would likely deliver tighter monetary policy, looser fiscal policy due to commitment to cut taxes without raising revenue (ING) – Gold has lost 5% since Romney started gaining momentum – and the DXY is 1% stronger

FISCAL CLIFF –Many feel that a Romney Win will alleviate concerns about Sequestration and going over the Cliff – While a Obama victory will cause higher polarized debate over the cliff, as the GOP will not easily lose any bargaining strength. Ground “Zero” for these concerns in the market should be the Defense Contractors (The ITA is up 2.5% the last 2 days, and nearing YTD highs) – The Fed IT Contractors (SAI +4% this week / CACI 8% (earnings as well) / MANT +7% this week). 10-year yield could fall to 1% or lower should tax increases, spending cuts hit in full; at 1.75% yield, market “somewhat optimistic” deal will be reached (DB)

FINANCIAL FRIENDLY – A Romney Win may help with much of the regulatory stress our Financials are feeling of late here in the States. We are seeing HEAVY call buying today in the XLF – representing our largest Banks and Insurers. I think it’s too hard to tell if this is a Sandy Trade. Over 100k Nov and Dec XLF calls have printed this morning

When pressed in a corner I am sure the 1% will not want to see their fortunes jeopardized by even the ignorant Tea Party masses they have created. Stocks and investments are doing fine, so what may have to pay slightly higher taxes. A lot of money time and effort has been expended discrediting the Obama administration but even the power brokers know the writing is on the wall. Diversity in the American population cannot be stopped. If the sheep remain manageable everybody wins unless you are are vile prick like the Koch Brothers who in the end will be seen by their peers as screwing things up.

He's pointing out, as he's been doing a lot lately, how crazy and childish the Republican Party has become. No one's going to vote for Romney based on the argument that Republicans will destroy America if they don't. The real point is that Republicans are willing to figuratively blow up the country, for whatever reason.

That's hardly an endoresement of any of them.
