/Rant
The Republican's hatred of Gays, the unyielding support of God, and the fascination with guns essentially is what makes the current Republican party so obnoxious.
I think that this is the biggest reason why our country has become so polarized. Those that want simple answers without complex or critical thinking, and that is very dangerous. It is so bad now that you can't have a simple conversation anymore, and facts are completely disregarded now. The last time that was the case, NAZI Germany used the European Jewish population as a scapegoat. Currently, with divorce rates so high among heterosexual couples, and the average age of marriage increasing they are now on a warpath to blame this all on the LGBT community. Praying for rain is simply a joke, and it is ironic as many white Christians called the Native Americans for such a tradition "pagans". I will take it a step further, praying for someone's well being is also a joke, given it was discovered thousands of years ago by the father of medicine that prayer and offerings to the Gods did not a make a difference. But treating the patient did on the other hand. As for guns, it is probably the worst form of self defense one could have in a dwelling or urban setting. Not many people live on a farm for example, or out in the wild, so this rabid irrational need to have a gun for self defense just in case the government turns against us is silly.

(16,350 posts)I'd change 'unyielding support of God' to something like 'forcing on everyone their personal interpretations of a petty and punishing god' (and I did not capitalize the word on purpose, because I don't think God has anything to do with these people and Jesus would throw them out of the temple in a heartbeat).

(49,445 posts)...is that people that own them are willing to spend time and money organizing and fighting to continue to do so.
Those that do not own them have to do literally nothing to continue to do so.
So, to those that do not own them, the controversy looks strange and foreign.
They also have an irrational fear of "the gay", probably do to not wanting to question their sexuality AT ALL. They're not in the habit of it, they've been taught to fear it, so that's just a place that drives them totally insane.
And of course, being good Christians, they feel compelled to save your eternal soul by any means necessary. And if that means using the jackboot of government on your temporary, physical body to save your immortal soul for all of time, then, so be it.
And they fear the uterus and its god-like power to create life, and want to control it.
