Brit Hume: Polls Showing Romney Losing Are 'Puzzling'

On the Sunday before the 2012 presidential election, Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume is saying that it's "puzzling" that national polls indicate GOP hopeful Mitt Romney is tied with President Barack Obama race is a tie while swing state polls suggest that Democrats are going to win enough electoral votes for to keep the White House.

"I think the conventional wisdom is trending now towards a Obama win, something along the lines of what Karl Rove and his team pulled off for President Bush in 2004, but I'm by no means certain," Hume told Fox News host Chris Wallace. "And there's this striking discrepancy between national polls -- which tend to be done, by and large, by older, more-seasoned polling firms -- and state polls -- a number of which are done by less-established firms. The national polls have this a tie. The state polls, as you just suggested -- the battleground state polls suggest and indicate that President Obama is ahead in all of them."

"It seems striking that there would be this difference," he added. "And it is sobering, if you're a Romney supporter, to think that he is trailing or just tied in so many of those states."

"I think it's unlikely -- it's hard to imagine as a political journalist that all these many polls are off. But the discrepancy is unmistakable and puzzling."

Doing that would cause Obama to rise, of course, since some of the "less-established firms" are Republican operations.

Yes, throw out the Citizens United poll, and the Gravis marketing polls... by all means.

Silly, silly man.

Of course national polls are going to be close because the racist South overwhelmingly supports the white guy. I mean, it's not even close in the former Confederate states, is it?

We do ourselves a disservice by underestimating RW pundits and politicians. Most of them play dumb, because their constituency prefers dumb.

Don't ask me why the RW rank and file like their leaders dumb, but they do.

and it's hard to see an Obama victory. McTeague says the polls(he doesn't specify) show a lengthening lead for Miffers. He goes on to say the young voters are so "turned off by Washington" that they will vote in 15% fewer numbers.
Murdoch now owns Barrons.

If you poll people in Mississippi, Texas, Utah, Georgia, Tennessee, they're going to weigh down the national average.

If you poll people in New York, Massachusettes, California, Hawaii, ect - they're going to bump up the national average.

It's not rocket surgery.

Take out the south and Obama would be up +6 nationally.

Why would you assume that the swing states should reflect the national polls? Does Brit find it puzzling that it's close in the nationals but Romney is up by about 25 in Oklahoma and 15 in Texas? It would only be surprising if we believed the states were mostly politically homogeneous.

Romney is winning big in most of the southern states, which makes it look like a tie nationally. However, state by state Romney is losing, mostly by fairly small margins.

Hume doesn't seem to understand math. That figures. These 21st century Republicans are against education.

the national polls switch to the registered voter model, most if not all of them will show President Obama with a lead and some of them very significant leads. Most of these likely voter Polls are biased against minorities and young people while having most older people and white people likely voters. Gallup throws out a significant amount of voters when they go to their likely models.

In the other hand these State Polls are more likely to pick them up in the early voting stages. I'm going to give North Carolina as an example again. Most national Polls had the assumption,Blacks, young people and Hispanics would not show up, but the end of the early voting period has proved them wrong. African Americans in fact have the highest enthusiasm of any group in North Carolina. I can even get more specific on this. I read a report where 21 African American young females arrived at a Polling place in Charlotte, and casted there votes for the first time in a presidential election. All 21 voted for President Obama. That is 21 votes they didn't account for in the national POlls. Three stones were killed in those 21 votes. THey were black, women, and they were all 18.
