a couple of times in his broadcast. First mention I have seen of these in the MSM. Husted had some lame explanation for them, in response to a reporter's question. Reporter didn't challenge him on why these are being added just days before the election.

(3,073 posts)And while FOX or even maybe CNN may refuse to cover it- other news outlets- like BBC and even Al Jazeera- and other international groups are watching and listening- and that's a good thing- and very different from 2004 when we pleaded with the media to pay attention.

(9,656 posts)Seske continues "Because the software is not 1) involved in the tabulation or casting of ballots (or in communicating between systems involved in the tabulation or casting of ballots) or 2) a modification to a certified system, the BVME [Board of Voting Machine Examiners] was not required to review the software." These claims are factually unsound. The software, although not communicating actual ballot information, facilitates communication between systems upon which votes are tabulated and stored. Although the software purports to not modify the tabulation system software, it is itself a modification to the whole tabulation system. This is why certification and testing is required in all cases.
Just as in 2004, the Ohio Secretary of State's office has enabled the possibility of a "man in the middle" attack. This software, functioning on a network through which votes are transmitted could act to intercept, alter or destroy votes from counties where it is not even installed, hence the "man in the middle" nickname.

(118 posts)one method is to use the statistical tools developed by Choquette, et al which produce charts showing large statistical anomalies when the votes have been flipped. This method charts cumulative votes per candidate against precinct level
total votes from smallest precinct to largest. (see details at link)
a second method of tracing vote flipping is more cumbersome but also accurate. For precincts using paper ballots with optical scanners, the actual ballots can be hand-counted and the totals compared with central tabulator totals (which likely have been "patched" to product a desired result.) In order for this audit of actual votes to take place. a court would need to agree to impound the ballots, central tabulators, software "patch" code, etc. I believe the Columbus Free Press voting activists are attempting to put this machinery in place.
