Stephen Colbert says he won't be stopped by officials saying it's too late for him to run in South Carolina's presidential primary.
"They said you can't go to the moon. They said you can't put cheese inside a pizza crust, but NASA did it. They had to, because the cheese kept floating off in space," Colbert told ABC's "This Week" Sunday.
The comedian, who announced plans to form an exploratory committee last week, said he still hadn't decided whether he wanted to run.
"I can't tell you what I've found yet, because I've just started exploring. ... I haven't even gotten on the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria yet. ... Let me find the spice routes and then come back, please," he said.

(16,230 posts)Paulsen was also on a politically controversial liberal comedy show; The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.
I wonder if Colbert is taking inspiration from Paulsen.

(3,927 posts)Oy, confession time: it was the RNC convention. Yep, Dad was a Republican at the time (he later reformed and became a Dem.....he was an incredibly liberal Republican all along....remember, those were the days when the Dems fought civil rights! He was at the forefront for the fight FOR civil rights). We kids weren't forced to do anything to support Nixon since none of us liked him....we all wanted to go work for Paulson! He was the only bright spot of the whole convention, which was boring as shit....the furthest we kids (I was 13) could go was the pool at the Fontainebleau Hotel, the RNC convention HQ and where we were staying....and it was full of woman with coifed hair we couldn't splash on and who looked askance at anyone having fun....oy.
Actually, my mother got so bored, she decided to try and learn how to use makeup (she never wore more than a little powder & lipstick).....my older sister proceeded to give her instructions for using, among other things, mascara. Mom ended up with it everywhere but on her eyelashes.....we were all in gales of laughter, the hold-your-stomach-tears-rolling-down-your-face kind of laughter. THAT was the highlight of the convention for us!
