Chris Christie Denied Mitt Romney Request To Appear At Campaign Event

BOSTON -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who was effusive in his praise of President Barack Obama when the two leaders toured damage from Hurricane Sandy last week, turned down a request by Mitt Romney to appear with him at a rally on Sunday night in Pennsylvania, The Huffington Post has learned.

Christie's decision will only add to questions among Republicans about what the governor -- who is up for reelection a year from now -- is thinking, and why he went out of his way to heap praise on the president, and then refused to appear with Romney.

The Romney rally was held at a farm in Morrisville, Pa., not more than 20 minutes from Trenton, the New Jersey capital. The physical proximity of the event to New Jersey only added to questions in the Romney campaign about why Christie chose not to come.

"You can't tell me he couldn't have gone over there for a night rally," a Romney campaign source told HuffPost.\

I may be alone in this but I want the sanity to return to the GOP, and he may be one of the people to help turn the party back into a sane, functioning party who are willing to compromise where necessary to move this country forward again. Just my humble opinion.

That waters the Democratic party down and prevents us from being a more liberal party, and it also makes the GOP more extreme.

Democratic Party needs to be moderate left to liberal
GOP needs to be moderate right to conservative

We need balance.

to real people in a storm as strong as Sandy, not that they understand anyone who needs some help.

Christie did the right thing by staying home. Sure, his re-election chances would decrease if he was off to PA at this time, but I'm wondering whether this storm has actually affected Christie's heart and brain. If it has, folks in New Jersey may have a better governor for the next two years.

One, he's the governor of a state that is in disaster recovery. He's busy. Two, he KNOWS Romney is toast and does not want to be associated with a loser. I'd say it's a good call by the Governor.

Christie is an opportunist and sees the writing on the wall. He knows NJ will need massive assistance to recover and his election next year will hinge on the state of that recovery.

He knows Romney has no chance at all of winning, and he is schmoozing with the man who will win.

wanting to use Sandy for his own political purposes. Christie got so turned off by it which is why he went out of his way to praise Obama, much more than he needed to.

and with Obama i think he himself asked Christie if there was anything he needed. he made no request for any public appearance and it was probably Christie who asked him to do it. based on questions Obama was asking Christie he could tell the PResident's only concern was for the people.

i hope we will find out soon what they asked Christie for. remember ROmney was only calling up GOP governors . if he just wanted to help wouldn't he call up all governors of the states affected ?

am no fan of Christie's, in general, but he has done what he is supposed to do when his state was hit by a disaster ... set politics aside and see that the needs of the citizens of his state are met.

That, I can (and do) respect.
