A Facebook friend who has been spouting off her mouth in support of Romney, as is widely done here in Red Tennessee, just posted this:
"Did CBS just say it is impossible for Romney to win the election? Then why have we all wasted the last several months listening to all this garbage? If the electorate is all that matters why are we wasting all of our time and money on the voting polls? Why not just let the electorate vote?"
I literally laughed out loud. They have their stupid opinions, but they don't even know how the system works.

(65,076 posts)This has nothing to do with knowing how the system works. This buffoon doesn't even know the definition of the word "electorate" and is too dumb to know SHE IS THE ELECTORATE.
This isn't like understanding how the electoral college works. This is someone so oblivious that she doesn't even know what the word SHE IS USING means.
Maybe the whole voting standards thing does have merit.

(65,076 posts)You were nice enough to just laugh. Me, i would have been far more rude. Is it a fault? Yep, but at my age a little late to worry about it now!

Tennessee Gal
(6,160 posts)Ignorance is rampant. It has to be for someone like Romney to have ever been close in this election.

(28,158 posts)The person I was talking to is a Romney/Ryan supporter. They were going on about national polls and I said something about swing state polls. They said they don't matter.
Suffice to say I left with a headache, and they were less excited about election day.

(10,611 posts)It's simple: If the GOP voters think R/R are in it, they'll go to the polls. And a lot of them are very easy-to-fool LIVs from the sounds of it. They treat a national poll that says Romney 49, Obama 48 like a basketball game score.

(2,097 posts)When Obama won, I had a co-worker tell me, "I don't know what you think you accomplished, he's just going to get assassinated and then McCain will be president anyway."
Then I had to explain that, A. No, he wasn't going to be assassinated. And B. It's not like the Miss America pageant; they don't give it to the first runner up. Biden would be president.
She just stood there blinking at me for a few seconds. It wasn't like someone flipped a switch, it was more like someone turned a dimmer switch up. You could almost see understanding coming into her eyes. Oh yeah...the vice president....
These people have never understood how the system works.
How did you not just chuckle, shake your head and walk away.
I wish Americans had to pass the citizenship test immigrants have to take.

(6,160 posts)Did she think McCain had been elected Vice President by virtue of not having won the Presidency? OMG!
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)that was the way it was. The VP was the one who lost.
So if she was thinking 1790 or so...
(I know, trivia that most folks really do not know)
She really thought the 2nd place finisher would step into the position. She completely forgot (or more likely, doesn't know) the chain of succession. I am positive if you asked her who would be 3rd in line, she'd just be all deer in headlights.
