Are you prepared for the let down? Are you prepared for the "Get over it" from the repugs. I pray to God the man wins but, the repugs can only win if they cheat or steal and they have done it before. This is not a sure thing. Stay safe. Peace to you all.

(2,979 posts)It will be due to the fact that GOP stole the election.
If that happens, this will NOT be a repeat of 2000.

(7,820 posts)And no, I will not be prepared to sit down, shut up, and get over another stolen election. That said, my gut says Obama's going to win, and by enough that it'll be really hard to steal. Plus, I don't think he'll let it be stolen without a hell of a fight.

Then I'll say, "Okay, I have cancer," and I will continue to live life by doing what seems the most sensible thing to to me to do.
Am I prepared for Obama losing? No. Why? What would these preparations be like? Calling someone to confiscate my belt and shoelaces? Lay in canned food and ammo? Find Jesus?
No. Just handle it like one handles big disillusioning disappointments.
With dignity.
I think (or at least hope) that everyone here understands that a 90% chance of winning includes a 10% chance of losing, and would be angry and unhappy.
Geez... 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010... we all have practice.

(26 posts)I don't want to turn into some nut who stocks up on canned goods and ammo. I wanna be able to tough it out and go on. But I'll still be angry that this lying sack of shit won the election. And I guess I'll channel that anger into something productive, like making sure that the Dems sweep the house and Senate in 2014. Can't vote federal, vote state, and if it's hard to change state, vote local. That's the most I've come up with.
We will survive under Romney, maybe our economy will even grow some, but there will be a rollback of civil rights under Romney, if, god forbid, he is elected. Our relationships with other countries will suffer tremendously, I fear.
So I guess we need to vote like hell to make sure that we don't have to worry about this tomorrow!

(1,206 posts)"Win" or "Lose", there's a lot of work to be done. That's the lesson the other side learned, and has been applying from day one, when Obama was inaugurated. They didn't even take a deep breath before they dove right into thinking up all kinds of ways to defeat him.
Meanwhile, some people (like myself,I will admit) got very mad at Obama and other Dems for capitulating so easily over and over again when the Republicans made a concerted effort to stand together. Too often, it felt as if Democracts were more than willing to compromise and give one inch after another, only to be repeatedly repudiated.
We all need to practice some long-term thinking, so that Democratic elected officials can be held accountable as much as the Republican base does with their people.

(20,600 posts)I have said several times I think it could go either way. I am not confident of victory. And I will not cry cheating or conspiracy if we lose without real and hard evidence presented, because I feel it is very possible to lose fair and square this time.
That said, I do think Obama has the advantage, and think it is more likely he will win. Romney has to hit a flush on the river to win this one, or something close to that.
cthulu2016
(10,960 posts)Nate Silver gives Romeny about a 14% chance.
Hitting a flush on the river means there four of the suit in play, so 9 outs. And 46 cards. So about a 19.5% chance.
So probably closer to pulling an inside straight on the river. 4 outs. 8.7%.
Hm... that's to low.
I'll say Romney was seven outs. Call it AK with 3, 10, Q, 7 on the board.

(24,853 posts)The way I see it, there are two choices: Leave the country, or get over it and wake up Wednesday determined to work toward getting Democrats elected to the House, Senate, and Presidency in 2016. I sure as fuck ain't leaving the country.
The first election I can remember was 1968. That makes this the 12th "most important election EVER(!!!)" in my lifetime. It hasn't always worked out for the best and we're still here. Even though there have been 6 republican presidencies since the Roe v Wade decision, it still stands. There hasn't been a nuclear war. The world has not ended.
The sun shall rise Wednesday as it did today; in the east, and it shall set in the west. I'm going to make a bold prediction here and say to the world I believe that's what's going to happen for a very long time to come.
Stop with the fucking hand-wringing already lest you get blisters. Gnash your teeth much more and they're going to be worn out stubs. You are either in this for the long run, or willing to give up and get off the train the first time it slows down. Which is it?
My guess is that President Obama gets re-elected. If the worst thing happens, I'll be looking to regroup and start the fight anew. It surely won't be the end of the world.
I guess I'm a glass-half-full kinda guy.

(27,247 posts)and things have gone dramatically downhill since the 1980 election. Not that 1968 was any prize, but at least then we still had a mostly liberal Congress and liberal Supreme Court and a New Deal / Great Society safety net firmly in place.
