If it does, (and IT does) then we are doing elections all wrong. We live in a country that can't even properly hold elections. And not just that, but we can barely hold elections with only around 60% of eligible voters even voting. Imagine we actually ever had an 80% turnout, voting would have to be weeks long. Also, there should be UN officials monitoring ballot counting.
We should make voting a National Holiday, triple the number of precincts, make voting quicker/easier. There MUST be a better way. I've never waited more than 10 minutes to vote here in NYC, but some states really need to get it together. 5 HOUR LINES?!
PSA Just a friendly reminder to GOTV for Pres.Obama because Mitt Romney is the Anti-Christ with cold, soulless eyes.

(18,807 posts)I'm in Nova Scotia and I don't think I've ever had more than five or ten minutes elapse between "I am entering the building where the polling station is" and "I have left the building." I don't even end up standing in line about half the time I go vote; most of the time is making my way to whichever room the voting's in and showing my registration card.
I mean, yeah, large swathes of the US seem to be deliberately trying to make it as hard to vote as possible, but multiple hours in line is completely ridiculous. A half hour in line should be completely ridiculous.

(3,596 posts)I have voted absentee the past two elections, by mail. It has been an interesting process. Before, I always felt some exhilaration voting in person, being here with other voters, etc. But I came to realize that when I get the ballot, I now have the opportunity to carefully consider some races and issues about which I have not formed options. I can do some internet research, for example, of ask others what they know about a candidate for say state judge or a state ballot issue. It allows me to make more informed and complete decisions.
Previously, in the precinct, if I didn't know or had no opinion I would not vote. Now I have the chance to cast that important vote once I research and come to a decision.
