Today I talked to 2 people at work who aren't voting

because they think it won't "make any difference". That's because we all live in TN which has already been "called" for Republicans. I pointed out that the election was closer in TN than they realized. Then we all revealed that we supported Obama. I then pointed out that part of the reason that TN was considered "red" was because Obama and Dem supporters didn't vote because they thought it "wouldn't count".

TN is more purple than people realize. It really should be a "swing state" - but it isn't because native son Al Gore lost it in the 2000 Election. But most agree that's because Al considered it a "lock" and didn't campaign here. If he had, most people here agree that TN would have gone Blue and the whole FL mess would have been moot.

Edit to add: I think the 50-State Strategy has a lot of merit.

popular votes in blue states due to Sandy (but not electoral college votes). We need Obama to win BOTH the PV and EV so that Mittens and the GOP don't have anything to whine about.

Their vote DOES count, especially tomorrow. Get them to the polls!

denied the vote because of voter I.D., their registrations were trashed, and their votes have otherwise been stolen by the TEAGOP. At least we who are able to vote should do so because it's our civic duty and because we could still lose it sometime in the future.

I just spent an hour typing someone on facebook a private message explaining why that person should vote. This year it's probably more crucial than any year, and in a sense - if we don't use it, we may still end up losing it!

EVERYBODY's VOTE COUNTS!!! Please. tell them we are in this together. I cast my vote not for just me and my family but for everyone who doesn't have healthcare or a job or is elderly or needs food stamps or help with college or has a right to equal protection under the law or is an UNDOCUMENTED CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES. Tell them we are ll in this together. If they are females, they should vote to keep their right to control their healthcare and their bodies. If you are a man, then it is for your mother or your sister or the woman you love.

wasn't going to vote for the same reason. I told him he could sleep outside if he didn't vote, the election wasn't just about the presidential race, we live in a competitive state senate district and he wasn't going to help hand that to a repub without a fight.

I know a lot of people who don't vote because "it won't change anything" or "make a difference". It makes you wonder how many red states are actually not so solid.

7. Tennessee was lost in 2000 because Rove planned it that way from the start

He wanted to embarrass Gore by the loss of his home state. I followed this closely because my family is from Tennessee. I learned to refer to Tennessee as a "little Florida" in terms of all the election fraud that happened there. Comparing Tennessee to Florida, I saw many of the same manipulations that worked in Florida executed in Tennessee. Of all of the complaints filed after election 2000 for vote manipulation, the DOJ followed up on 21. 3 of those were from Tennessee and were eventually "settled."

I wouldn't beat myself up over the loss of Tennessee in 2000 if I were you or one of your friends because it was just a part of Rove's bigger plan. And the Republicans did not win Tennessee by a huge margin.

Things will change there if the people make it. A great start would be insisting that FOX News not be on everywhere you go and insisting churches stay out of politics and telling people how to vote. Insist on that separation between church and state. Sounds extremely difficult, I know, many of my relatives are still there and they are all very conservative. I know the lay of the land through them and my visits there, but Tennessee is too beautiful of a state to cede to the Republicans, i.e., the "dark side."
