There is one certified Challenger for the Democrats and one certified Challenger for the Republicans at each polling place. I am there to make sure that all of their challenges are legal. And to report any anomalies, or hassles or attempts to intimidate voters. I have hot lines into lawyers offices who are on call for the entire day.And I make hard copy reports of any and all challenges. I guess I could be called a watch dog of sorts and my -only- job is to make sure every citizen is able to cast their vote. I don't have video which is not allowed anyway.

If True the Vote comes by to intimidate, watch, or in anyway hassle the voters, I can have them removed as they are not Certified or allowed to be there.

you're appointed by your County Party. You show you credential to the Presiding Judge of the precinct, and watch the proceedings, without interfering. You can go outside the poll to report irregularities and you keep a log; also can call a central boiler room to get advice and help if needed. The rules here in Ohio are fairly well developed. I'm one in SW Ohio. Good luck to us both and ALL protectors of our Rights...against the assault by the R-atz!

I am very proud to be a part of this historic day..

And I won't be alone, we also will have three judges at every polling place also certified and placed there by the SEcretary of State.

The N.M. Republican Party has trained at least 350 poll challengers, at least 80 of whom are Albuquerque tea party activists. The state Democratic Party has trained at least 200 of its own poll challengers.

Poll watchers observe the voting process and check which voters have voted, whereas poll challengers can actively challenge voters’ registrations and ballots.

I am nervous, but I feel good about it all!!

And what would be grounds for challenging a voter?

my primary role is to monitor challenges made by others to ensure that such challenges are not illegal, and are not being used to intimidate voters.

In NEw Mexico, a challenge may only be made

If the voters name is not on the voter list
If the list indicates the voter was issued an absentee ballot
If the person has already voted
If the voter is not 18, not a US citizen or not a resident of NM.

If a voter is challenged for any other reason than the ones above, I have to call it in and make a report

Then the challenge is given to the three judges ( We have three judges at every polling place) and they must agree unanimously before the challenge is complete. If the challenge is upheld, the voter will receive a provisional ballot and the clerk makes a note of it on the vote list.


The only challenge to a voter I am allowed to make is if a voters name does not appear on the voter list and he is given a regular ballot to vote on anyway.


If a pattern of challenges emerges, or if it looks like voters are being challenged to slow everything down, I call it in and report it.. I have a list of lawyers numbers to call, and they are ready to dispatch a lawyer in the event of trouble like this.

Looking forward to today, working at the polls.. Still kind of nervous, there have been reports that some of the GOP Challengers have gotten pretty rowdy and forceful, but I'm determined to stay calm, steady but firm.

No intimidation, no delays. Today is the day!!
