Easiest, least vetted campaign ever.

(4,982 posts)If any Dem candidate refused to release their taxes and it was discovered (s)he hadn't paid any taxes for 15 f*cking years? The goddamned media would be ALL OVER IT like white on rice and the Dem candidate would be relegated to the historical trashbin.
But when it's a Republican, it's not an issue. At. All.
And that's just ONE thing the f*cking criminal has done. All his offshore personal bank accounts? Profiting from the auto bailout then hiding the money in his wife's "blind" trust?
Shipping millions of jobs overseas - 180 of them from a plant in Freeport which closes down THE DAY before the election in which he expects Americans to give him their votes?!
NO WAY IN HELL would a Democratic candidate ever get on the ballot if (s)he had even ONE of these things on his/her record or in his/her past, much less ALL of them - and then some more.
Damn right he's gotten a pass. That's a monumental UNDERSTATEMENT.

(489 posts)He should burned him alive with his record as a "businessman" at Bain where all he did was suck equity out companies drive then into bankruptcy and lay off workers without pensions. And why they didn't bring up his abysmal record as Governor of Massachusetts why the let that slide I'll never know

(10,893 posts)Anthony Weiner was forced to resign just for emailing pics of his penis. Meanwhile, Mr.Romney got caught dodging taxes, dodging the draft, he gets caught in lies and flip-flops by fact-checkers daily, he spray-tanned himself orange and went on Univision, he went in front of the NAACP audience and told him he'd cut their health care, he got endorsed by several birthers and had them at his convention, he said he'd cut funding to Planned Parenthood, and there was even a video of his former GOP rivals telling people not to vote for him because he's a "liar". How the race is still close after all that is beyond me...maybe Republican voters have lower standards than we do.

(15,139 posts)fucking chimpanzee in 2000 and 2004 - making both elections close enough to steal. Now they're championing an idiot who knows he can get away with scores of lies because no one in our pitiful excuse for a "mainstream" media will call him out and hold him accountable. If the media was doing its job, Rmoney would be defeated in a landslide.

(9 posts)The sham media disgusts me the way they gave their annointed one a pass. We know nothing about him beyond the fabrications...nothing! Never heard a single person who went to school with him, or worked with him, that had anything to say about him. Has anyone seen his school transcripts? His official records when he held public office? NO. They're sealed from public scrutiny. Why?

(1,660 posts)wouldn't have even had a shot at vice president let alone president. That simple fact alone would've painted him as a thug in the mind of most white voters. Of course Romney was arrested when he was a grown man and it didnt even make on on the MSM radar.

(81,318 posts)A couple of SLIGHT changes:
1) Quite a few started using the "L" word (variations on a theme of "he's lying" to describe what wrongney was saying in his speeches and in pro-wrongney campaign commercials. THAT had never happened before. During bush/cheney, the best any of those spineless numbskulls could come up with was "...a prevaricating president..." As joe scarborough has been known to say: "Oh Sweet Jesus..."
2) There was indeed some public and publicized fact-checking, which wrongney/lyin' eventually became famous for. I guess it just got to be too glaring to ignore or downplay - even for our lapdog media. Evidently even they can only inhale just so much stench before some of them reach critical mass on it. For example, I was truly surprised to see candy crowley, of all people, actually step in during the second Presidential debate and correct wrongney when the asshole was making a totally erroneous accusation against President Obama. I couldn't believe that! candy crowley???? Calling a beloved republi-CON on his public blunder? I thought she only reserved that treatment for Democrats. THAT, to me, was a total surprise. Actually, shock is more like it.
But in general, it seems the media took MUCH greater pains to "be nice" to the GOP. Calling a seven or eight point Obama lead still "too close to call" or "neck-and-neck." They were slow to pounce on wrongney, but then again, the whole republi-CON slate during the primaries offered almost too much ridiculous material on which to obsess. Far too many assertions from talking heads and resident or guest pundits were allowed to go unchallenged for far too long. And really, sometimes there's just no need for vigorous "devil's advocacy." Just no need. As I think Rachel Maddow pointed out - there SERIOUSLY is no need to feel compelled to bring in the Flat Earth Society when you've got scientists and astronomers on, talking about a space shot or something. There actually are some sides that don't deserve any attention OR respect.
That said, I was actually fairly impressed that air and column inch time were given to a LOUD reaction against the disgraceful and stupifying and utterly mysogynistic comments by the likes of todd akin and richard mourdock - weighing in on rape. I'm really glad that got picked up and run with. I'm surprised there, too. Tells me that maybe SOMEBODY is actually paying a little bit of attention to issues that women care about most. THAT didn't used to be true, either.
We've come some way. But the fact that wrongney has been able to get as far as he has is just stunning. And I don't see ANY attention being paid, or that much effort being applied, to digging out the real goods on wrongney's taxes and where and how he's hidden his money and what a fucking scam artist he is. LOTS of stuff didn't get much attention or play. Where were the voices that continued to pursue wrongney for releasing ALL his tax returns? Man, that sure died down after awhile. Does not bode well AT ALL if, horror of horrors, wrongney wins.
We've still got a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNGGG way to go before Democrats and republi-CONS truly get equal treatment in and by the media. This false equivalency shit, too, has got to stop. In too many cases, still, there's been such a phony magnanimity in trying to appear objective - in hastening to point out that "both sides do it" or "sources on both sides admit..." or some other lame shit. It is INFURIATING!!! It's like taking a brick and a grain of aquarium gravel and saying they're both the same because they're both hard.
And what was equally infuriating is that these examples I cite here actually stand out. They do because they're so damn INFREQUENT - and UNCOMMON. They're noticeable because that's not how it usually happens. They are NOT the norm, although hopefully it'll evolve. I mean, we actually have a few examples to mention, for a change. But still, so much more dumping on President Obama and downplaying his accomplishments - or ignoring them. He didn't get a fair shake. WHY, for example, when the assertion was made that he didn't get anything done or he was too partisan and didn't work across the aisle - WHY was that always allowed to stand? WHY was there never a second sentence added, or uttered, to keep the record straight - and remind everybody of the reason - because the damn fucking GOP stood in the way of the President's EVERY MOVE? How often I longed to hear some commentator or interviewer recall, aloud, all the time Obama spent trying to compromise, trying to be open, trying to reach out, and every step of the way was rebuffed. I almost NEVER heard that truth emphasized or reaffirmed.
We've still got a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG way to go.
