(2,979 posts)At least the cat is not in pain anymore.
Losing a pet is tough. But I'm sure your kid will bounce back before you know it.
Kids are pretty tough.

(4,404 posts)They were great cats. We loved them like family.
As sad as it is though, I can't think of a better life than being a house cat in a loving family.
Sorry to hear though, it's a rough thing to go through.

Please give your daughter a big hug for me.

Your girl will be OK. Give her time.

(5,611 posts)Our guy had kidney failure and heart trouble and had to be put down a few years ago. We miss him. But it was definitely time for him to go so he wouldn't suffer even more.
It sounds like this kitteh had exactly what kittehs want and need most -- genuine love and compassionate care.

(46,416 posts)Edit to add: One of my kittehs isn't doing so hot lately in the kidney dept., seems to be what brings down a lot of them.

(51,666 posts)all the other deadly diseases and mishaps, the kidneys are the part that simply wears out.
Had one come in today that is starting to near the end. We are upping his home fluid administration schedule, and if that doesn't get him back on an even keel I won't have any more tricks up my sleeve. We have tinkered with nutrition and medications and fluids for quite a while. He is 15 or 16, so I told the clients it's all icing on the cake now anyway.

(13,776 posts)Poor Kiki, poor daughter, poor you. It really is difficult to see your child sad.
It's hard to do the kindest thing to end a beloved animal's suffering, but the trust he always had in her to take good care of him was well placed.
liberal_at_heart
(12,081 posts)She had been giving him his fluids and trying to get him to eat. She tried to clean his fur when he stopped cleaning himself. She cleaned up after him when he became incontinent. She even wanted to be with him when he went to sleep for the last time. She has a great sense of caring and responsibility with animals. She wants to be a veterinarian and I tell you I have ever confidence in her ability to do so.

(2,050 posts)and I'm still devastated. I've done it many times and will many more times (we still have 3 dogs and 4 cats) but losing my Joey tore a piece of my heart out. I love all my critters with all my heart but I know I'll never grieve like I have for Joey. I've had dogs and cats all my life but he was different, special in some way. I wish the best for your daughter and hope she feels better soon. Again, I'm terribly sorry.

(2,126 posts)I know how hard it is to lose beloved kittehs. I've lost 3 of my cats to kidney failure. You did the right and humane thing to put your daughter's cat to sleep.
TlalocW
(15,384 posts)I hated the idea of her - or any animal suffering. They bring so much to us and expect so little in return, and they're in our lives for only a short time, which makes them all the more precious.

(272 posts)Losing animals is so hard. I've lost two beloved cats and a beloved dog to getting-old-and-falling-apart syndrome. It hurts. You may know this already, but Paul Krugman recently lost one of his cats, and mentioned it Here.
