Under the radar- I think there will be a lot of women in red states quietly voting for Democrats

It will not show up on exit polls but many woman will vote Democratic but not tell anyone. In many households the woman watch their budget closely and now that their birth control is covered by insurance they know how this helps the bottom line. While their husbands may be tea baggers in the privacy of the voting booth they can express their true feelings. Republicans are counting on their white men being in control of the woman in their lives. Well they may be in for a surprise tonight.

We're not in a red state, but my 92 year old MIL will go vote for Obama and Warren because she is so outraged by the attacks concerning choice and Planned Parenthood. I was not sure whether she would go as we are in blue MA and frankly, she is sensitive to the tax cuts arguments and think that Romney was a good governor, but these issues are dominant for her and for many women that have known what not having Roe vs Wade was.

I was shocked that my SIL (who lives in a red state and calls herself an independent, though she tends to repeat Fox talking points) announced her intention to vote for Obama and the Democratic Senate candidate (for exactly the same reason).

Frankly, I am more concerned by younger women, who think that the rights they have are forever. Sorry, kids, we still have those jokers on the right who think the place of a woman is in the kitchen. Romney is clearly one of them (may be in the living room if you are rich enough to have a maid).

I am from NY, but I was so amazed to find this group of women out here.. Women in the south are waking up to this.. Especially since all these rape comments..

My Repub MIL is voting dem in the house race for sure. She is adamantly pro-choice. My SO has been explaining to her quietly and out of my FIL hearing that Romney will stack the Supreme Court with anti-choicers. Maybe, just maybe, she will vote Obama too.

I'm getting a sense that there's gonna be alot of white male goppers voting for President Obama, as well. I base this on some of the comments posted to my local daily rag's on-line discussion board ... yesterday, there were zero "Pro-romney" posts; but several anti-President Obama posts ... but noticably, many of the consistently republican posters, were oddly silent/absent; and those that did post, posted really, really neutral statements, like, "all we can did is vote our conscience and pray for our nation."

Sure, the GOP's neanderthal beliefs regarding womens' rights have been around for a long time, but the GOP was a lot quieter about womens' issues back then. In 2000 they tried to disguise themselves as moderates (remember "compassionate conservatism?&quot , and in 2004 they were too busy screaming "TERRA! TERRA! TERRA!" (trying to appeal to women because Republicans would "keep your family safe from those ebil terra-ists&quot to say much about womens' rights at all.

The fetus-sign-waving abortion clinic protesters have unfortunately been with us ever since Roe v. Wade, but it was not until 2010 that their hijacking of the GOP was complete. Now their neanderthal beliefs lie far more fully exposed than they did during the Bush years, and in the privacy of the voting booth, I would certainly expect (and hope) that women vote accordingly their interests.

Told me she is not voting for Romney this year, probably first time ever not voting (R) for president. But she also told me that she's keeping it a secret from everybody else in her life. I bet there are more out there like her.

politics, but 'liked' the Romney page on facebook--which surprised me. She put something else up nothing over the top but no doubt showed support for Romney. I was talking to her and told her be sure to vote today, even though I know we weren't voting for the same guy for president. She said 'don't be so sure about that, there are something my husband doesn't need to know, I have to keep up appearances' I was shocked.

I couldn't imagine living like that. Having to hide what you believe who you support from your husband. Those days are long gone. I feel bad for her.
