I'm in upstate NY. The voting area was in a church instead of a school this year. There was a line once you walked in the door and some cable news was there (at least it looked like it-- a guy in a suit was speaking in front of a camera off to the side and then they went into the voting room with the camera). When I got to the head of the line the poll worker asked me my address and then directed me to a numbered table. When I got to the table, a man asked me my name, found it in his book where my signature was there from last time I voted. I signed the empty rectangle next to it. He gave me a pen, a form and a cardboard cover. I went to a cubby and filled in the bubbles after reading the directions. Then I proceeded to the vote machine and pushed the form in blank side up. I asked the election worker if I did that right-- he said it didn't matter which way i placed it in which made me a little nervous. All in all the lines were not long and it was a fairly quick process. I was not asked for ID although I had it on me just in case.
My sister voted in Tennessee. Her poll location opened 15 minutes late. There were 2 machines for the two districts voting there. Her district's machines were both broken. They gave her a provisional ballot. Apparently those are not counted. I don't know why they couldn't have put the 2nd working machine to the district that did not have even one that was working. She didn't know they don't count the provisional ballots. I don't know if she had to show ID. You would think they would have tested these machines and made sure they worked before election day, it's not like it's a surprise or anything.

(9,463 posts)At my polling place the poll worker ladies said they were lined up at 7am. By the time I got there at the top of the hour it was in and out. Took me all of five minutes. So fast and easy I can't understand why many people can't be bothered. I realized some more populated areas will test people's patience but once you're in, it's easy-peasy.
Here in red hell the entire back of the ballot was republicants running un-opposed. I hate that. I didn't vote for any repubs.
On to victory!

(4,950 posts)--our State Senator and I like him. He is not a Teapublican and he responds to his constituents--he really helped us out when my dh was getting the blow off from unemployment. He also spoke out against a local project that was giving major tax incentives to the developer.
