(28,798 posts)i can't stand him either. and it's not as if he's bringing anything other than his long experience as a journalist as far as i can see, he just goes on her show and spews crap.

(34 posts)That motherfucker got caught with his "fake but accurate" bullshit. What kind of amateur does that????

(2,795 posts)I certainly never thought he was a true rethug.
Whisp
(24,096 posts)because he thought it was the right thing to do to stand by yer man in times of great grief, as 911 was.
He stood by his man and didn't say squat much about the illegal invasion of Iraq. He probably changed his tune now about the Iraq war, like so many do hoping we don't remember.
Fuck Dan Rather - he's no reporter/journalist/whatever, he's just one of the clowns. I don't think Rachel knows that yet and still sees him as some kind of freedom fightin' great newsman. She likes to smooze him for that reason.
meadowlark5
(2,795 posts)So I had no idea what his political leanings were.
If he's a Bush man, of course he's got a good gut feeling for scumney. That's how all these conservatives and repugs live - on belief and gut feelings. Facts don't figure into the republican narrative.
Bandit
(21,475 posts)Dan Rather would not let up on Bush 1 over Iran Contra Scandal during one of the Presidential debates. I think Republicans hate the man very much even to this day...
Whisp
(24,096 posts)after 911, cuz gosh golly he's my president!
If you have info that he was not in favour of the illegal invasion of Iraq and spoke out about it, let me know. Because I don't remember Rather or any other of those traitorous fucks go against the word of the Great Monkey's Wishes during those times. The only one I recall is Phil Donahue, who had major problems with the idea, and his ass was canned off NBC (was it nbc?).
so fuck Rather. with a rotor rooter.

(110,159 posts)she was asking a question, for his opinion, and he could not give his own, but on both shows just repeated whatever she said.
i thought it odd then.
that might be what he was doing with scars, if they were looking for hope with romney.
after seeing those two interviews with maddow, i think he is in a certain place, due to age.
bigtree
(85,998 posts). . . he's so at odds with the establishment that it's hard not to take his side against the Bush defenders who still despise him for his truth telling about AWOL.

interesting question to talk about, but if it's most of the content of the show, then the show has become non-fact based speculation.

she will go after obama as fast as a repug. BUT.... she does call out a lot of stuff others do not talk about.
i am glad i didnt watch last night.

(11,229 posts)Rather is not very smart. Worse yet is the fact that he is gutless.. Only a gutless dumbass could have been exposed by Poppy Bush on national tv.

(1,983 posts)he's been leaning towards Robme since the Summer when I saw him on Bill Maher....
Javaman
(62,530 posts)he's mr debby downer every time he's on Rachel.
I can't listen to the guy. He sounds like he's going to slit his wrists every time he give his two cents.
I respect Rather, but his time has come and gone (sadly), the whole report on morons* sketchy service record took a massive toll on him. We know he was correct but the powers that be squashed him.
Now he tries to come across as the "reasonable" voice and just comes of instead like a gigantic wet blanket.
libtodeath
(2,888 posts)it wont even be close I bet.
Stupid thing for him to say.

(16,854 posts)He got dealt dirt for his efforts. Rachel supports him - so there's something there.
grantcart
(53,061 posts)If you really hated Romney and wanted him to lose,
and
if you knew that it was going for Obama if you get the people to vote
then
if you appeared on national TV to give an opinion would you say something that would make people complacent
or
would you say something that would scare the beejezus out of people so that they wouldn't stay home
but
go and stand in a line for 4 hours in Florida.
Just sayin' sometimes when the other side takes your knight its because you want them to take your knight.
bigtree
(85,998 posts)I don't know. Seems like a long shot; probably no more effective (if you're scheming) to just be straightforward. I think Rather has tried to be a straightshooter; not always on the mark.
grantcart
(53,061 posts)who is willing to stand in line in the Florida sun for 3 hours to vote.
Just saying that what Rather is saying is exactly what Michael Moore is saying, and I think it is for the same reason.

If it makes people angry enough to vote, it helps.

I trust Rather more than most newsmen, but not concerning his "sense of the electorate".

Rather sacrificed his career to try and bring down the bush regime, so now he's not allowed to make a critical observation?
I think that everyone's "guts" are in turmoil today, nightmares do come true (as proven in 2000)!
My gut is worried to death about the gubernatorial race is my state and tons of good journalists here are expressing that same feeling today. I sure don't condemn them for uttering such a thing.
