In your state, how is your vote confirmed?

Do you get a receipt for your vote that confirms how your voted? In PA, I got a receipt, but all it has is a number ... There's no way for me to verify my selections. Given today's technology, it seems like it would be simple to link that number to an online version of my actual ballot. Does any state do this?

at least in L.A. county, they use a paper ballot with the inka-vote system. You're given the ballot stub with a number and then they scan your ballot in the machine and tell you that there were no issues with it and that it's been accepted.

...I guess....

Not sure what good receipts do--they can't really tell you what happens electronically in the scanner and then the totals go to the Central Tabulator...

Unless you're using a touchscreen, can't see much use for receipts.

and individual votes verified after the fact. If some given number of voters demonstrate problems, a recount could be required by law.

something stating how you "think" you voted would be meaningless. That's why I am against touchscreen voting, even with receipts.

Original paper ballots. The only way to go.

They scanned my Driver License and gave me a yellow card to insert in the machine. I guess they can tie my vote to my name now. There was a summary of how I voted and then you cast your vote. I have no receipt or backup of how I voted.

We've never had any problems surrounding voting here. A few years back we switched from the lever type of machine to a scanner. You don't get a receipt. You are just supposed to wait until you see a cofirmation that your ballot scanned successfully. Not ideal, I guess, but then there was no receipt when we had levers either.

Optical scan ballot marked by hand with a pen.

Voter is given a serialized stub with the precinct and ballot numbers - I was number 499 in my precinct this morning.

Voter places completed ballot in a cardboard box. Ballots are scanned centrally at the office of the Registrar of Voters.

I'm in CA. We use ballot cards that we mark with a black marker. The cards are optically scanned.

Every page (card) has a serial number on the ballot card that matches the number on the tear-off stub.

Edited: Actually there are serial numbers on the stubs, but none on the ballot cards themselves.

However, I have no physical evidence to confirm that my vote was counted.

Paper ballot where we use a marker to connect the front and back ends of an arrow. Then we feed our own ballots into an optical scan machine and get an "I voted today" sticker.

so there is at least an actual paper ballot, but I don't have any idea if the machine read my ballot correctly. I can only hope that the voting tabulators are better than the ones that graded our tests in high school and college. :/

So we have to "trust" that the votes will be electronically tabulated correctly. I have no faith in that. I know how easy they are to hack.
