Can you decide where you want to cast your vote or must you only vote at one certain polling place?

(10 posts)I voted early so that is different. You need to check on your voter id card and check your precinct number.Go online with that number and find where you have to vote.

(3,069 posts)but on election day you have to vote in your home precinct. I think there are exceptions for provisional ballots, but I am not certain on that point.

(54,027 posts)... why can't they do the same for Election Day voting? It's all electronic anyway. Why not just make the records electronic and just let us vote anyplace we like on the FTATFM in November?

(3,069 posts)I always vote on Election Day, so I don't know a thing about early voting or how it works, except that you can go anywhere. How do they sort it all out for the down ballot races in early voting? Is it all touch screen/computers?

(220 posts)Hi,
Your voting place should be near, in relation to where you live. Your precent. Check your voting card for the number & your local newspaper should have it listed on their voting page where you should go to vote.

(8,692 posts)I've often wondered. I try to vote early but when I can't, I go to my precinct just in case.

(220 posts)"Travis County has started using Election Day vote centers for certain elections. When vote centers are used, voters are allowed to vote on Election Day at any polling location in Travis County. When vote centers are not used, state law requires Texas voters to vote in the precinct where they are registered to vote. Texas law or the entity conducting the election determines whether or not vote centers will be used."
"Election Day Vote Centers are in effect for this election.
You may vote at any polling location where you see a "Vote Here" sign.
Polling locations are open Tuesday November 6, 2012 from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm"

Apparently there was a pilot program in Lubbock County in 2005 and it has since been adopted by several counties.
It has not been implemented in every county so check your county.

(35,015 posts)I voted at lunchtime; hardly anyone there. I went in, showed my card and proceeded to the black box (haha). Chose my candidates carefully (did NOT vote straight ticket), then verified, then voted.
As it has been for the past several years, no printout or receipt of vote, so no actual proof. I just have to believe my vote gets counted as shown on the screen.
