I know almost nothing about baseball except that the team with the higher score is the winner. In my ignorance, I see 2 runs as a very small margin, that the other team could easily get 2 and tie the game or get 3 and win. Only 2 runs ahead means very close to me, but 91.6% means almost certain victory.

In a typical 5.0 runs/game, it's 91.79% to be exact.

We may be 2 runs up in the 9th, with two outs ... but there's still a chance for the other guys to knock one over the fence and drive in the tying run. It's a slim chance but that chance exists. So go out there and strike him out.

Remember, this includes the scenario with the visiting team scoring 3 in the top and the home team still scoring 2 in the bottom to win that way.

....you can only get excited about a lead if your team is winning by more runs than outs remaining.

Thus, if your team is leading by 4 runs going into the ninth, you can get excited since there are only three outs left.

But if you are leading by only 2 runs, you can't get excited until there are 2 outs in the ninth.

And if you are only leading by one run, you can't get excited until that final out.
