(916 posts)p.s. My son's high school was also overwhelmingly for Obama. Rural high school in a blue county in NC. But still very encouraging.

(13,418 posts)sounds weird to you, but all of this talk about the Mayan calendar. The Mayans never said that the world would end but it would be a shift in the paradigm. Away from destruction and competition to the cooperative and creative. Maybe we are starting to see this.
If that happened in AL, WOW! As a 'yankee,' I've been afraid to even go there that my big mouth would put me in jail!
I do not want to get my hopes up until I see RobMe giving a concession speech while crying like a diaper-rashed, unwanted baby...see how I could get arrested or shot???
Doesn't sound weird to me.
Bring on the paradigm shift toward the cooperative and creative!!!

(13,418 posts)those Mayan's were a smart bunch of people. I guess the Earth is leaving the area of Pisces (where we've been in for the past 2,000 years) which is a very macho and destructive sign and into Aquarius which is more feminine, cooperative, and creative.
I've long felt that our culture/world was getting close to hitting bottom and that we had to find a new way to live.
However, there might be some earthquakes, floods and land mass changes on the way to that new paradigm. Mother Nature has to convince those who haven't respected her a lesson. So we'll see.
It certainly was eye-opening to see Sandy hit the US in its most densely populated areas of NY and NJ.
I lived in CA and experienced a 7.2 earthquake. Just unbelievable power that Mother Nature has. I recycle everything now. I show her the utmost respect.
Now do you think it's weird?

(3,867 posts)People's ignorance knows no bounds. But then again this is a state that has and will vote against its best interests. They vote down a lottery to pay for college because of religion. If you could get Jesus out of the South, it would be a better place to live.

(345 posts)As we walked into the building the teabaggers tried to hand each one of us their propaganda/newsletter. There were five kids in that car, each refused the handout. By the way, I live in a DEEP DEEP Red county in Texas. I too have hopes for the next generation.

(5,816 posts)At work today I had to listen to two people talk about how Romney had won the election in one of our local middle schools and in a non-local (but still northeastern NC) elementary school. Of course the elementary school in question was a private, Christian school, but still. It depressed me.
