Aurgh, I'm so annoyed! Have a teacher FB friend who teaches middle school reading at a large district in Houston. I am also a teacher--not at the same school. We're FB friends due to a close common friend, but this political season, he's really been pissing me off with his holier-than-thou "I'm the shit and I'm voting for Mitt" posts.
Anyway, this is his most recent post: he has a picture of himself (he finds himself incredibly good-looking), and writes "Reppin my boy, Mitt, at work. Good luck, Mr. Romney!" Then, he has 21 likes, and 3 comments--and they all look to be from students. I know for a fact that he has students on his page, which we're not supposed to do at all. One of them said "Coolest teacher ever, the only one who will voice their political opinions out loud." Well crap, I keep my to myself because I'm NOT going to argue politics with someone who isn't old enough to vote, period, and I find it incredibly unprofessional to do so. I don't know if it's actually against school policy to discuss politics with kids in this fashion; I *do* know that we're not allowed to use work time to campaign, send political emails, etc.
I just know that if my own daughters' teachers were to brainwash them, I'd be livid.
Anyways, I needed to vent, so than you for listening. Also, if you have ideas of what I should do (esp if any of you work for Cy Fair ISD and know the regulations regarding this!), let me know. I'd say something on his post, but since he and I aren't friends beyond FB anyways, all he'd do is delete me at best.
Thanks,
KC

(8,492 posts)I agree that he shouldn't be 'friends' with students on FB. He needs to be reported for that as well as campaigning during school hours. I'm sure some of their parents would love to hear about this, as well.

(35 posts)...we've heard about what crappy schools (therefore educators) they have in TX. My daughter had a right wing US History teacher (grade 10) last year. She was openly critical of prez and spewed some right wing garbage. Well, she won't be making that mistake again. I hope you let your friend have it on Facebook.

(3,773 posts)no point... just gets my blood pressure up and I don't need that. But I will forward it to the teacher's principal and to the district superintendent. Fucker's gone completely out of line. And not all educators in TX suck. I'd like to think I'm quite fantastic.
