(10,565 posts)not, that poor people have to wait in line way, way, way longer than the upper middle class & rich. Time for that BS to stop. NOW.

(2,322 posts)...paused to add "by the way, we have to fix that"! Wow! What a moment, what a "jab" amid all the diplomacy in the rest of the speech about how Romney/Ryan really care about America, etc. I sure hope he gets on that, to fixing that, starting tomorrow. Can't be soon enough.

(6,488 posts)I was walking around doing something and that line stopped me. I stopped, turned to face the TV, and gave a rather vehement thumbs-up to the TV. We really need to do something about that.

(3,596 posts)I agree there should be uniform election processes across the country from when polls open/close to the method of election (mail, electronic, etc.) to requirements for voting, etc.
But this will NEVER EVER happen. It is a pipe dream. We are stuck with state-controlled processes, etc.

(5,955 posts)I also seem to remember some talk about...LAW SUITS...directed against State officials for all these voter registration purges. Especially the voter registration purges that were going on right up until election day, when Federal Law forbids any changes to voter registration lists THREE MONTHS before an election.
Okay you guys, you won the election, it's time to GET SERIOUS about ENFORCING the voting rights acts!

(7,650 posts)I find it shocking that so many Americans seem to accept that voting on e-day of necessity means you have to wait in line for hours and hours.
In Canada, most of us vote on e-day rather than in advance polls, yet the wait time at the polls is never all that long, maybe a half-hour at most at the busiest times.
I recognize that states run your national elections (a bad idea no-one has copied) but a big aspect of this problem that you can solve is changing the ridiculously low expectations of how long it ought to take to vote.
Changing those expectations, and demanding better service at the polls, ought to be the focus of a sustained campaign in the next few years. The will go a long way to expose and undermine the vote suppressors in future elections.
And may I conclude by saying: Yaay Obama! Yaay American voters! Well done all!
