I'm as happy as only else, but PBO really needs to break the gridlock in congress

I heard on CNN about his advisors wanting him to take the narrative straight to the voters. I think hat that's a great idea. Conventional deal making isn't going to happen, not while McConnel and Boerner are at the helm.

Even if PBO shows that he's willing to go beyond making reasonable concessions to get a deal, it won't matter because I feel that the Republicans will try to use such a gesture to force an opportunity to dismantle some part of the ACA.

Taking the narrative to the people sounds better than conventional grown-up talk.

One would think that the Republican leaders in Congress would understand that the election results...re-election of BO, increase in Democrats in the Senate and House would be an indication that voters want compromise and co-operation. But this is not the case. I have no doubt that Boehner or his likely replacement will be even more intransigent and inflexible. They want to take the country to the brink of disaster because they genuinely believe it either makes a point or wins them votes. If they were not primates just out of the trees they would see that their debt ceiling game didn't win them ANY votes this cycle. But they won't see it that way. They will be more determined than ever to thwart anything BO or the Democrats suggest.

I hope Reid jettisons the current filibuster rules. If he doesn't then he must be replaced as majority leader in the Senate. We must get back to majority rule with some protections for the minority. But Reid has been very weak in this area.
