Republicans and the Latino Vote

Last night after CNN projected President Obama would win reelection there was a discussion of the Republican Party's chances of increasing its share of the Latino vote. At one point, a Republican Latina stated that the Republican Party has a number of raising Latino stars. The problem for the Republican Party is not whether it has future Latino stars. The problem for the Republican Party is whether the base of their party will actually vote for a Latino in the party presidential primaries.

When some of the biggest boos come when a candidate discusses the fact that he gave in state tuition to illegal immigrants living in his state and some of the biggest cheers come when there is a discussion of deporting people your problem is not Latino stars your problem is your base.

Yes, some Republican Latinos have been elected. However, the question is will the base vote any of these individuals out of a Republican presidential primary, especially if any of those individuals put forward or supports any pro-illegal immigrant policies.

Even if they were to again put forward a white individual as their presidential nominee would they be willing to put forward a white individual that would support immigrant friendly policies. So, the question is what is the Republican Party base willing to accept in order to win? Would the base be willing to lose elections in order to support particular policies?
